JANE LaROI BORGES, 88, of Middletown died Sept. 14 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she resided in Midland Park and Red Bank prior to moving to Middletown in 1988. She was a secretary and bookkeeper at Hoan Products, Upper Saddle River, retiring in 1978. She was predeceased by her husband, John R. Borges, in 1978. She is survived by three sons, John R. Borges Jr. of Carmel, Ind., James W. Borges of Bristol, R.I., and Joseph E. Borges of Bedford, N.Y.; two daughters, Barbara Erera of Middletown, and Mary Anne McDowell of New South Wales, Australia; a sister, Doris Kupillas of Charlottesville, Va.; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. JOHN M. KUHN, 61, of the Belford section of Middletown died Sept. 14 at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he lived there until moving to Belford in 1974. He was a building manager at Rose Associates Managing Agent, New York City, retiring in 2000. Prior to that, he worked at Brookfield Associates, New York City, from 1977-96. He served with the U.S. Army in the National Guard. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica E. Kuhn in 2001; and a daughter, Doreen Marie Ryan in 1999. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jean Ann Kuhn of Brick; his daughter, Christine Kuhn of Belford; and one grandson. Visitation will be Sept. 18 and 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. CHARLOTTE G. RICHARDS, 82, of Denton, Md., died Aug. 29 at Memorial Hospital, Easton, Md. Born in Baltimore, she resided in Aberdeen 24 years before moving to Denton. She worked at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Hazlet, as a nurse’s aid. Prior to that, she was a waitress at the Pimlico Hotel restaurant, Baltimore, for several years; and a cook in Washington, Pa. She was predeceased by her husband, Delmas Richards; four brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Ann Timms of Maryland; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Lewis W. and Ardis Kisenwether Jr. of Matawan; two sisters, Evelyn Guercio of Wayne, and Helen Pettit of Peoria, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Oct. 20 at noon at the First Baptist Church of Matawan. KARL T. STEINHAUER, 40, of Middletown died Aug. 24 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he had lived in Middletown since 1971. Mr. Steinhauer was an installer for Metro Fire and Safety, Carlstadt, for the past two years. He formerly worked for Craig Service Center, Middletown, for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Gerrity Steinhauer; a son, Dylan, at home; his parents, John and Eileen Steinhauer of Leonardo; a sister, Lisa M. Karanovich, and two brothers, Christopher M. and Sean V., all of Virginia; and his maternal grandfather, Michael Smith of West Shokan, N.Y. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial in Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo.
WILLIAM J. MOSHER SR., 80, of Tinton Falls died Aug. 26 at home. Born in Hudson Falls, N.Y., he had lived in Lincroft and Shrewsbury before moving to Tinton Falls in 1965. Mr. Mosher was co-owner and founder of Red Bank Drapery Shop, Red Bank. He previously was a drapery buyer for various department stores, including Montgomery Ward in Maryland, Scranton Dry Goods in Scranton, Pa., and Stanfords in Dubuque, Iowa. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he received a bachelor’s degree and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Mr. Mosher was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie and Lucille Mosher. He is survived by his wife, Mary C. (née Mullen); three sons, William J. Jr. and Robert, both of Tinton Falls, and James of Magnolia, Del.; three daughters, Carolyn Burns of Jackson, Elaine Mutz of Brick and Nancy Mosher of Woodbridge; and six grandchildren. Interment was in Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
ANTHONY D. GRIECO, 45, of Port Monmouth died Aug. 27 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Newark. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Fairview before moving to Port Monmouth 15 years ago. He was a government bond dealer on Wall Street in New York City. He was a member of the Middletown Elks. Surviving are his wife, Irene; a son, Anthony "A.J.," at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Richard Hebb of Iselin; and three nieces. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, followed by interment in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
DOROTHY M. PASSERO, 82, of Monmouth Beach died Aug. 28 at her children’s home in Rumson. Born in Flushing, Queens, N.Y., she had lived in Neptune for 40 years before moving to Monmouth Beach. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church, Neptune. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, who died in 1985. She is survived by a son, Thomas Jr. of East Brunswick; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and George Serbe of Rumson; and four grandchildren. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
GEORGE EDWARD McSHANE, 75, of Old Bridge died Aug. 30 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was a retired paper maker for Kimberly Clark. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Radtke McShane; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael McShane of Old Bridge, Joseph and Geri McShane of Orange City, Fla., and Martin and Carol-Jean McShane of Jamesburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Ann and Peter Pappas of Keyport, and Theresa McShane of Jackson; two sisters, Barbara Martinetti of Berkeley Heights and Florence Rothenberger of Redland, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren. PAUL R. BECK, 67, of Freehold Township died Aug. 31 at Tisch Hospital, New York City. Born in Butler, Pa., he had been a resident of Freehold Township since 1957. He was a regional sales director for Braniff Airlines, N.Y., where he was employed for 25 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold; a member of Freehold Council 1672 Knights of Columbus, and the Monsignor Kivelitz General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; and a member and past exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1454, all of Freehold. He also was a 20-year member of the Christian Brothers Academy Century Club, Lincroft. He is survived by his wife, Eileen (née DeVitis); a son, Christopher L. of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter, Jessica E. White, Corvallis, Ore.; three brothers, Robert L. of Freehold, Albert M. of Allenhurst, and George W. of Holmdel; and four grandchildren. JOE VAZ, 60, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Aug. 31 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Pardelhas, Portugal, he came to the United States in 1957 and lived in Newark prior to moving to Belford 35 years ago. He was a retired ramp service person for Transworld Airlines, Newark, for 25 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Jose Vaz and Palmira Paiva. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Madeline Matos Vaz of Belford; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and Artie Johnsen of Middletown, and Lynn Vaz of Belford; his mother-in-law, Mary DeMatos of Middletown; his brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Idalina Vaz of Toms River; his sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Manuel Silva of Newark; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. HOWARD F. MOORE, 75, of Middletown died Sept. 1 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Carteret, Pa., and Florida prior to moving to North Middletown eight years ago. He was a warehouseman for Acme Markets, Kearny, for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Arleyne S. Tomalenas Moore in 1991, and his brother, John Moore. He is survived by his son and daughter, Howard Moore Jr., and Karen B. White, both North Middletown; two sisters, Mabel Petry of Effort, Pa., and Shirley Massingill of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. ALTA L. BLITZ STANLEY, 74, of Manchester died Sept. 4 at Manchester Manor, Lakehurst. Born in Arlington, she lived in Middletown for 38 years prior to moving to Manchester 10 years ago. She was a bank teller for United Counties Trust Co., Middletown, for five years, retiring several years ago. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Anthony Stanley of Manchester; her daughter, Cheryl Speidel of Middletown; her brother Forrest Gray of Florida; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. VINCENT A.G. BOYLE, 87, of Middletown died Sept. 5 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Jersey City prior to moving to Middletown in 1957. He was a postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service, Middletown, for 25 years, retiring in 1977. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, as well as a member of St. Mary’s Holy Name Society. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member, past commander, and past district 6 commander at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Cootie, and state surgeon for the Military Order of the Cootie; member of American Legion Post No. 515, Leonardo section of Middletown; and a 4th degree knight at Vince Lombardi Council Knights of Columbus the past 57 years. He was also a co-founder and 38-year member of Middletown Helps Its Own. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene Hirchak Boyle in 1987. He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Vuono of Atlantic Highlands, and Margaret Mary Gallagher of Lincolnville, Maine; his brother James Boyle of Avon; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
