Joseph M. Zimmermann

Mr. Zimmermann, 84, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Oct. 9 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, he resided there prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach 40 years ago. He was a bus driver at NJ Transit, Howell, for 40 years, and Aberdeen Township Transportation Department, for 10 years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and was Honorably Discharged. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph Jr.; four brothers; and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita Zimmermann; four daughters, Carole Rinkowski, of Little Egg Harbor, Janet Snyder, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, Linda Brown, of Hazlet, and Nancy Zimmermann, of Keyport; four sons, Gary Zimmermann, of Matawan, Joseph Zimmermann and Robert Zimmermann, both of Jackson, and Dean Zimmermann at home; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Austin J. Gent

Austin J. Gent, 5 months, of Tinton Falls, died Oct. 10 at home. He is survived by his parents, Susan E. and James M. Gent; two brothers, Zachary J. and Caleb J., both at home; his maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Alban Gass of Tinton Falls; his paternal grandparents, Mary Ann and George Gent of the Belford section of Middletown; his great-grandmothers, Maria Pontecorvo of Middletown, and Margaret Walp of Quakertown, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will take place Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will be offered Oct. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Minnie M. Jones

Mrs. Jones, 72, of Eatontown, died Oct. 9 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Middletown, she had been a resident of Eatontown since 1969. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George N. Jones; a son, David A. Jones of New Orleans; a daughter, Carolyn Jones of Neptune; a sister, Margaret Zakanycz of Middletown; and two grandchildren. Visitation will take place Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothea’s Church. Phyllis M. “Kiki” Mannino

Miss Mannino, 42, of Middletown and Williamstown, died Oct. 10, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Red Bank. She is survived by her parents, Marline and Phil Mannino, of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Donna Mannino, of Howell; a niece; and a nephew. Visitation will be Oct.. 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Oct. 14 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Joseph M. Cardoso

Mr. Cardoso, 80, of Hazlet, died Oct. 1 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he resided in Hazlet the past 26 years. He was a machine shop supervisor at United Telecontrol Electronics, Ocean, for 12 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he was a tool and die maker for 32 years. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and a member of American Legion Post No., 321, Union Beach. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Yeager. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara Droge Cardoso; three daughters and one son-in-law, Elaine Cardoso, of Glen Gardener, Susan Cardoso, of Denville, and Cathy and Marcelo Mejia, of East Windsor; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Mabel M. Downey Carroll

Mrs. Carroll, 85, of Hazlet, died Oct. 1 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she resided in New York, and the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen prior to moving to Hazlet 25 years ago. She was a cafeteria worker at Keyport High School and the Holmdel School System. She was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She was predeceased by her husband, William Carroll in 1958. She is survived by tow sons and daughters-in-law, William and Judith Carroll, of Aberdeen, and Robert and Donna Carroll, of Old Bridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and James Robertello, of Bernardsville; a sister, Virginia Headden, of Cliffwood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Clement’s Church. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Mildred Conover Hart

Mrs. Hart, 89, of Freehold, died Oct. 2 at Bartley Healthcare Center, Jackson. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., she had resided in Freehold and Lords Valley, Pa., before returning to Freehold in 1996. Prior to retiring in 1968, she was employed by Air Cruisers Co., Wall Township, for many years. She was predeceased by her first husband, William E. Conover Sr.; her second husband, William Hart; and a grandson and granddaughter, Christopher Conover and Lori Ann Edgar. Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, William E. Jr. and Alice Conover, and Alan P. and Susan Conover, all of Freehold, Gary A. and Barbara Conover, of Morris Plains, and Russell W. Conover, of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Carol Tilton and her husband, Robert, of Powhatan, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

William V. Ferro

Mr. Ferro, 96, of Red Bank, died Oct. 5 at home. He resided in Red Bank most of his life. He was a part-time barber at Lenny’s Village Barber Shop, Oceanport. Prior to that, he was a barber for more than 75 years, and master barber and owner and operator of the Officers’ Barber Shop, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown. He served with the National Guard and was discharged as a sergeant. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a past member of the Garabaldi Society. He was predeceased by a brother, Rafael Ferro; and two sisters, Ann Citarella and Mary Deponti. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Theresa; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rosemarie and Joseph McDonald off Middletown, Filomena and John Josko, of Ocean Township, and Teresa Mufara, of Brick; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony’s Church. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Joan A. Gallo

Mrs. Gallo, 73, of Middletown, died Oct. 6 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, she resided in North Bergen and Jersey City prior to moving to Middletown 50 years ago. She was a retired bookkeeper at the Middletown Township Building Department, where she was employed more than 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gabriel Gallo; three daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Christopher Monaco, of Middletown, Joan and Lucian Chiarello, of Ocean, and Ann and Carlos Pichardo, of the Belford section of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Judith Gallo, of Palm Coast, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Elaine Kelly, of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Florence Kelly, of Little Egg Harbor, and Blanche Gallo, of Linden; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Entombment was at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
