New York/New Jersey Baykeeper, Sandy Hook, will join forces with seniors from Red Bank Regional High School, Little Silver, this winter for the seeding of a young oyster reef near Oyster Point Hotel, Red Bank.
Sixty marine biology students of science teacher Dave Hussey constructed specially designed floating cages for the oysters, and will be responsible for monitoring a clutch of 500 juvenile oysters. Once a month, from October-June, students will track the oysters’ growth and mortality.
The project was organized by Hussey and the Baykeeper office, and is coordinated by Debbie Dalton.
