Jazz guitarist coming to Freehold

FREEHOLD — The Freehold Borough Arts Council will present an evening with Martin Taylor, one of the world’s top jazz guitarists, at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton St., Freehold Borough.

Taylor is a multi-award winning guitarist and Acoustic Guitar magazine calls him “The Acoustic Guitarist of his Generation,” according to a press release. He is recognized as the world’s foremost exponent of solo jazz and fingerstyle guitar playing.

Taylor has collaborated with musicians from many different musical genres, including Jeff Beck, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Wyman, Chet Atkins, Stephane Grappelli, David Grisman, George Harrison, Jamie Cullum, Bryn Terfel, Dianne Schuur and Gary Burton, according to the press release.

He has been awarded two honorary doctorates, a BBC lifetime achievement award, Top 10 albums in the United States and Europe, a record 14 British Jazz Awards and in 2002 he was appointed Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire “For Services to Jazz Music” by Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain.

Taylor’s groundbreaking solo album “Artistry,” produced by Steve Howe, was released in 1992 to much critical acclaim. It was No. 1 in the HMV Jazz Charts for a record 12 weeks and launched his career as an international solo artist, according to the press release.
