Dr. Eric M. Silverberg, chiropractor, is participating in the “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” statewide program to collect nonperishable food, coats, hats, gloves and scarves being sponsored by the Association of the New Jersey Chiropractors. Dr. Alan Zbik, a board certified doctor in internal medicine, of Morganville, has joined the medical staff of CHEMED (Center for Health Education, Medicine, and Dentistry), a federally qualified health care center in Lakewood. Among his duties at CHEMED, Dr. Zbik will manage primary patient care, and advise patients and their families on health care, including health promotion, disease, and illness. Before joining CHEMED, Dr. Zbik was in private practice in internal medicine in Manalapan, for more than 20 years.

The Toys “R” Us Children’s Fund, a public charity affiliated with Toys “R” Us Inc., has awarded Prevent Child Abuse– New Jersey a $2,500 grant to support the nonprofit’s work building programs that keep children safe, healthy and nurtured. The core mission of the Toys “R” Us Children’s Fund is to keep children safe and to help them in times of need. Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey is dedicated to eliminating all forms of child abuse for all New Jersey children.

Burlington Coat Factory, Route 9, Freehold Township, will partner with One Warm Coat, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing coats to those in need, and ABC’s “Good Morning America” for the fourth annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Drive to help local families. Those who bring gently worn coats to Burlington Coat Factory now through Jan. 17 will receive 10 percent off their purchase at the store. All donated coats in Freehold will be distributed to people in Freehold. Last year Burlington Coat Factory collected 220,000 coats (a 24 percent increase from 2009) and this year the plan is to surpass that and collect more than 250,000 coats.

Dr. Lewis Wetstein, thoracic surgeon and chairman of surgery at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, was recently appointed as governor of the American College of Surgeons.

Wetstein is a past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and was recently appointed to this new position as governor.

The New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons consists of surgeons “dedicated to advancing the highest standards of excellence in patient care, through the education of health professionals and the public, and by supporting research and surgical training programs in the state.”

The organization advocates at the state and national levels on behalf of surgeons and their patients.

Wetstein is a resident of Interlaken and and has a medical practice in Freehold. He is also chief of thoracic surgery at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

The Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources, a Superior Merit Award Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, will conduct its monthly meeting from 8-10 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Jumping Brook Country Club, Neptune.

Elizabeth Wilson, SPHR, and senior associate at Mercer Consulting, will present “Compensation Strategy 2011.” Wilson will review current talent management and reward strategies based on Mercer’s work with companies in all geographic arenas.

Topics include the current mindset about base pay increases for 2011, the status of pay for performance, how companies are managing employee expectations, how employers are providing incentives and engaging high-potential employees, and where employers will place their compensation investment bets in 2011.
