Resident likes slowdown in local development

I am writing in response to the Your Turn guest column by Jeff Kneler (“No Jobs, But at Least We Have Open Space,” News Transcript, Feb. 17). How about hearing from a resident who lives in one of these towns.

I have been living in Marlboro for 15 years and I don’t think there was ever a time where I didn’t see some type of development happening in this town — development after development, strip mall after strip mall, McMansion after McMansion.

I for one am thrilled to see some of this slow down. I am also thrilled to see signs of “open space.” I say we need more of them. The problems we face in this town is from too much development.

Driving anywhere, especially on Route 9, is a hassle because of all the traffic.

Our schools are bursting at the seams and I have seen two new schools built since I have been here. There isn’t much land left here to build on.

Does Mr. Kneler also realize that all this development could be part of the economic problems we face today? People buying houses that they really could not afford. Now we have many houses on the market and many in foreclosure. Do you think we need more development? Is he kidding?

You guys had your field day in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. It is time to slow it down. How many stores and restaurants also have gone under because there are too many of them? Let’s be realistic. I don’t want to live in a concrete world, not to mention the environmental impact all this development has done.

To any politician reading this, keep up the open space. I am tired of seeing another something else being built.
