Lou Scatigna, of Jackson, has made a career with a unique brand of financial advice. A veteran certified financial planner and president of AFM Investments Inc., Howell, Scatigna has been advising on practical financial management for 26 years, calling himself “The Financial Physician.”

Scatigna’s first book, “The Financial Physician: How to Cure Your Money Problems and Boost Your Financial Health,” has just been published. In the book he uses analogies to physical health to help people understand complex financial matters.

Scatigna will appear at a book signing and talk at 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Barnes & Noble, 4831 Route 9, Howell, in the Lanes Mill Marketplace.

For 10 years Scatigna has hosted a Sunday morning radio program called “The Financial Physician.” In August his radio program went national, airing on satellite talk radio Sundays at 6 p.m.

Scatigna and his business partner, Martin Saltzman, founded AFM Investments, 4667 Route 9, Howell, 22 years ago to provide financial management advice to residents of the Jersey Shore. Scatigna also provides income tax services. Details: 732-905-8100.

The Goddard School, Morganville, is accepting applications for a scholarship. The Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of the founder of The Goddard School and is awarded annually to a graduate of the Goddard School who demonstrates the work ethic and perseverance that exemplified Martino’s commitment to his career, family and community. Jean Quinn of Parlin, and Maria Romano of Marlboro, both vice presidents at The Provident Bank, recently received certificates from the American Bankers Association upon completing the Senior Leadership Institute’s Banking Leadership Program, a two-year executive development program.

Romano is a regional manager who oversees 12 branches. Quinn, heads up the bank’s corporate communications department.

Quinn and Romano participated in a series of discussions, readings and casework on effective leadership with other top-level financial services executives from around the country. The selective program admits only a small group of senior banking executives each year.

The senior leadership program gives participants ideas on how to better manage a team, set goals and oversee activity with a vision that goes beyond day-to-day operations.

Lewis Wetstein, M.D., FACS, a Freehold resident and thoracic surgeon at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, has been elected president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Wetstein is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery and has been practicing in the Monmouth County and Ocean County areas for more than 20 years. The American College of Surgeons is an educational and scientific organization that was established to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.

Awning Design, 638 Route 9 south, Howell, will relocate to a larger facility in the Fairfield Office Park, 916 Route 33, Howell. The new 7,300-square-foot space will house the company’s product showroom, manufacturing and administrative offices. Established in 1988, the company has four retail locations in Monmouth and Mercer counties and offers a full range of awning and sun-related products and services.
