CentraState Healthcare System is fiscally sound and planning for growth in some key services in 2009, according to the 2008 annual report presented by John T. Gribbin, president and CEO.

Citing several national, regional and statewide clinical and workplace awards, the theme of the report is, “The Best Places to Work.”

Key accomplishments for CentraState over the past year included the first full year of operation for two projects: the $48 million Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus and a major expansion and renovation at Applewood Estates, a $39 million investment in CentraState’s retirement community.

In 2008, CentraState opened a new 30,000-square-foot medical office in Monroe Township. It also welcomed 64 new physicians to the medical staff at CentraStateMedical Center, the most in a single year since the hospital opened in 1971.

Future plans include a $15-million upgrade and remodeling of the Intensive Care Unit set for completion this fall and an expansion of the Radiation Oncology department with the installation of a second linear accelerator. Renewal of the national MagnetAward for high-quality nursing care will also be sought once again, according to Gribbin.

The system provided more than $21.8 million in charity care and other community benefit services last year, a 21 percent increase over the prior year.
