The Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce (formerly the Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce) Young Professionals Group invites business people age 21 and over to join them for hors d’oeuvres, networking and a comedy show at the Primetime Comedy Club, 960 Route 9 south (Sayreville Plaza), Sayreville. Networking will take place on April 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with healthy hors d’oeuvres provided by Ann Marie Sgroi, Independent Health Coach from Take Shape for Life. Colts Neck Golf Club has hired Mike Kalum, formerly from Fiddlers Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, to be its new head golf professional. Originally from Winston Salem, N.C., Kalum attended Wake Forest University on a golf scholarship and was a four-year letterman and an NCAA All-American. Upon graduation, Kalum played on the PGA tour for two-anda half years. After the tour he was the head golf professional at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C., for 16 years and then moved to the Sea Trail Resort and Golf Links in Sunset Beach, N.C., as the director of golf for five years. Most recently, Kalum was the director of golf at Fiddlers Elbow Country Club for the past 10 years. Kalum and his wife, Ann, have two daughters, two granddaughters, and four stepgrandchildren.

Pilates Space, Marlboro, will be recognized by the Marlboro Economic Development Committee with a celebratory ceremony on April 4 at 11 am. Owner Arlene Katz welcomes the community to see the Pilates studio, and enjoy demonstrations on the apparatus, light refreshments, and take advantage of introductory offers.

Katz, a physical therapist for 28 years, is a certified Authentic Pilates instructor and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She teaches private, semi-private and small group 55-minute sessions by appointment at the studio, which opened for business in November.

Pilates Space uses Authentic Pilates, which incorporates the original “contrology” exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. He found that contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit. Denise Andino, RNC, Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey (VNACJ) Home Visitor for Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) Program in Middlesex County, and a Freehold resident, received the 2009 Maternal Child Health “Not Your Average Nurse – Clinical Award” from the New Jersey Chapter March of Dimes. The award is a statewide recognition of outstanding achievement by a maternal child health nurse in the clinical area “who does it all.” The award was presented at the March of Dimes Maternal Child Health Award Ceremony on March 25 in Eatontown.

Andino has been a nurse for 21 years and has worked as a nurse home visitor for the nationally recognized Nurse Family Partnership Program since 2005. The NFP program is an evidenced-based prevention program that reaches out to low income first-time mothers. As a bilingual nurse, Andino plays a vital role in the successful integration of the NFP program to include the large Latino populations in the area. Andino was recognized for her success in balancing work, home, motherhood and schooling for herself, as well as homeschooling her three sons. She has successfully used her clinical and time management skills to engage young mothers in the program.

Monmouth Ocean Pulmonary Medicine and Woman to Woman Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, LLC, have opened offices at the Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus at CentraState Medical Center, 901 West Main Street, Freehold Township.

Monmouth Ocean Pulmonary Medicine is staffed by five board-certified physicians whose specialties include pulmonary disease, internal medicine and sleep disorders. The National Association of Women Business Owners will hold its Central Jersey Business Conference and SEED Competition from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 21 at Excelsior Caterers, 355 Route 9 South, Manalapan. Guest speaker will be Susan D. Wigenton, U.S. district judge who sits in Newark and hears civil and criminal matters. The one-day business conference luncheon will feature workshops designed to benefit all businesses of central New Jersey.
