The Goddard School, 50 Route 520, in the Morganville section of Marlboro, recently earned a perfect score of 100 percent in curriculum, health and safety, and programming and support from its franchisor, Goddard Systems Inc. The score was determined during the semi-annual Quality Assurance Audit held March 16-17. The school’s previous 100 percent score was achieved on Nov. 16, 2008. The Morganville location opened in January 2005. The school accommodates 150 children, ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Harry Szarpanski of Manalapan was named one of the 2009 recipients of the Fund for the City of New York’s Sloan Public Service Awards. The award is the leading independent honor for city employees who display extraordinary commitment, often far from the limelight, and achieve exceptional results in serving the public. Szarpanski, deputy commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation, and colleague Walter Czwartacky were selected from among 250,000 city workers for this honor. Overall, seven city employees were presented with this award.
Dr. Deborah Breitstein of Marlboro recently returned from the 23rd annual North American Veterinary conference held in Orlando, Fla., making this her 10th consecutive conference presence. Breitstein concentrated her learning efforts on new diagnostic testing procedures and protocols for animals with heart murmurs that can allow indications of stress on the heart muscle and how to identify patients at risk for heart disease and/or congestive heart failure. Other new testing includes a sensitive blood test for animals that are at risk for pancreatitis. The test can give indication and direction for immediate and acute therapies to better aid the vomiting patient, the patient with a poor appetite and those with unexplained weight loss.

His agency is now one of the top Allstate agencies in the nation in auto, property and commercial insurance and financial service sales. Because of this, Beer’s agency has achieved the distinctive Allstate Conference of Champions award. For nearly 60 years, the Conference of Champions has been Allstate’s symbol of outstanding achievement.
Christ Church, Howell, will open Dayspring Academy at 71 Oak Glen Road, Howell. The academy will provide quality education for children age 8 weeks to 6 years, along with an after-school program. The Rev. Antoinette Attinson, executive pastor at Christ Church and a mother of two, is the founder of Dayspring Academy.
Dayspring Academy is a state licensed facility with trained and educated teachers. Even though the academy is housed in Christ Church, students will not be taught church doctrine; however; Attinson said they will employ Christian principles.

Nicholas A. Mercogliano of Marlboro has earned the certified culinarian (CC) designation from the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Mercogliano is chef at Christopher’s Café & Restaurant, Colts Neck, and a member of the ACF Jersey Shore Chefs Association. ACF operates the only comprehensive certification program for chefs in the United States and currently certifies nearly 9,000 professionals worldwide. Candidates for ACF certification must have a high level of work and educational experience, and pass a written and practical examination. In addition, candidates must complete coursework in food safety, nutrition and supervisory management.
