Myria A. McKoy
Mrs. McKoy, 103, of Manalapan, died Jan. 10 at home. Born in South Carolina, she had lived in Manalapan for the past 70 years and had worked as a domestic in the Freehold area, primarily for F. Gilday Freeman. She was also a member of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Freehold. Mrs. McKoy was predeceased in 1986 by her husband, William H. McKoy; in 2001 by a son, George Wallace; and in 1999 by a daughter, Shirley Conover. Surviving are three daughters, Emma Mumford and Arthelia McKoy, both of Manalapan, and Barbara Richardson of Trenton; two sons, Fred Richardson of Howell and Isaac Richardson of Boston; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two godchildren, Andrew Parrot and Rosemary Hogan. A funeral service was held at Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Imelda J. (Scully) Costura
Mrs. Costura, 86, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died Jan. 12 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was a homemaker. Born in Jersey City, she had resided in Morganville for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Marlboro Township Senior Citizens Club and St. Clement’s Friendship Club. A cat lover, she enjoyed traveling and playing bingo. Mrs. Costura was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, Michael T. Costura. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Costura of Cincinnati, and Jeff and Jacqueline Costura of Pelham, N.H.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr./Col. Bernard and Janey Scully of Columbia, S.C.; three grandchildren; best friends Shirley and Gig Barowsky; and longtime neighbor Helen Alt. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, with the Rev. Leon Buni officiating. Interment took place at Gibson Cemetery, Pelham. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Cynthia A. Montano
Mrs. Montano, 70, of Old Bridge, died Dec. 31 at home. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Macy’s, East Brunswick, where she worked for 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Surviving are two sons, James of Jackson and Andrew of Freehold; two daughters, Elizabeth of Cranbury and Carol Jacobs of New York City; a sister, Madelyn Brodhead of East Brunswick; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover.
Grace A. McCarty
Mrs. McCarty, 78, of Manalapan, died Jan. 13 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Marlboro for 11 years before moving to Manalapan four years ago. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Edward McCarty; a daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and George Delgado of Manalapan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Cecelia Klein of Brooklyn, and Bill and Mary Klein of Colts Neck; two granddaughters; and a nephew and his family. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, Marlboro, followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Edith Abloeser
Mrs. Abloeser, 79, of Media, Pa., formerly of Manalapan, died Jan. 14 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, Pa. Born in Dresden, Germany, she had lived with relatives in Czechoslovakia after her family was expelled from Germany by the Nazi government. She and her husband were Holocaust survivors. After the war, they continued the family lumber business until 1949, when they moved to Israel for 10 years. They then lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she worked in a knitting factory while raising two sons. Beginning in 1990, Mrs. Abloeser resided in Manalapan for 10 years before moving to Martins Run in Pennsylvania. She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband, Zigmund. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Abraham and Rita Abloeser of Freehold Township, and Samuel and Marcy Abloeser of Bryn Mawr; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Jose Antonio Martinez
Mr. Martinez, 73, of Freehold, died Dec. 30 at home. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he had lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Freehold two years ago. Mr. Martinez was a warehouse worker for Tops Appliance, Edison, before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Laura Queseda Martinez; a son, Giovanni Vazquez of New Brunswick; two daughters, Sonia Serrano of Freehold and Betty Crespo of Perth Amboy; four brothers, David Martinez of Queens, N.Y., and Serafin Martinez, Willie Martinez and Nelson Valentin, all of Puerto Rico; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Ann Livezey
Mrs. Livezey, 70, of Englishtown, died Jan. 15 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jamesburg, she had lived in the Englishtown area all her life. Prior to retiring 10 years ago, she was a school bus driver for Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools. She was a member and past president of the Englishtown Fire Department Auxiliary and had also served on the Board of Elections in Englishtown. Mrs. Livezey was predeceased in 1980 by her husband, Charles C. Livezey. Surviving are three sons, Charles E. Livezey of Beachwood, John Livezey of Willingboro and Andrew Livezey of Englishtown; three daughters, Patricia Kirkland of Englishtown, Judi Gillespie of New Hampshire and Linda Soto of Pottstown, Pa.; two brothers, Charles Warshany of Manalapan and Edward Warshany of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with the Rev. Frank Jacobs officiating. Interment followed at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Florence Levin
Mrs. Levin, 87, of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro, died Dec. 31 at her daughter’s home in Howell. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Wickatunk for the past 40 years. Mrs. Levin was one of the founding members of the Freehold Chapter of Deborah Hospital Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham Levin, in 1979. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Levin of Warrington, Va., and Stewart and Lois Levin of Howell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Charles Grega of Howell, and Nancy Levin of Wickatunk; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with Rabbi Laurence Malinger officiating. Interment followed at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. Max Smith
Mr. Smith, 96, of Freehold, died Jan. 9 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had resided in the Bronx, N.Y., for more than 60 years before moving to Freehold. Prior to retiring 40 years ago, he was a New York City cab driver for many years. A World War II Army veteran, he received the European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal for his service within the EAME Theater. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a grandson, Steven Russin. Surviving are his wife, Jennie (Bienstock) Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Ellen Smith of Chicago; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Ed Russin of the Morganville section of Marlboro, and Roslyn and Mark Squire of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, with Rabbi Donald Weber officiating. Burial took place at Sharon Gardens (Kensico Cemetery), Valhalla, N.Y. John Francis Wortley
Mr. Wortley, 77, of South Amboy, died Jan. 1 in Sunrise Assisted Living, Marlboro. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was a physical education teacher, coach and director of athletics at Sayreville War Memorial High School for more than 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Jane Kedzierski Wortley; a son, John of Old Bridge; a brother-in-law, Leo Kedzierski of South Amboy; two nieces; and a great-niece and three great-nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in the church mausoleum.
