Emanuel A. Vito
Mr. Vito, 67, of Cookstown, New Hanover Township, died Jan. 1 at home. Born in Newark, he had lived in Freehold Township for 25 years and in Bedford, Va., for eight years before moving to Cookstown five years ago. Mr. Vito was a supervisor for Owens Illinois, Freehold Township, for 13 years. While residing in Virginia, he was employed by the Bedford Township School System. He was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Jobstown, and a former communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Vito is survived by his wife, Christina Mucci Vito; a son and daughter-in-law, Emanuel Jr. and Jennifer Vito, of Howell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Bruce Hornik of Millstone, Yvonne and Tim Boyle of Washington Crossing, Pa., and Maria and Manny Chirico of Howell; a brother, Louis R. Vito of Chester; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Andrews’s Church. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. John R. Provost
Mr. Provost, 77, of Freehold, died Jan. 2 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in York, Pa., he had lived in Auburn, Mass., before moving to Freehold 23 years ago. Mr. Provost was an engineer for New England Bell Telephone Co., Worcester, Mass., for 27 years, retiring 23 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Worcester College, Worcester, Mass. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; the Freehold Township Senior Citizens Club; and attended Ardena Baptist Church, Howell. Mr. Provost was predeceased by his firs wife, Marion Simpson Provost, in 1979; and two brothers, James and Robert Provost. Surviving are his wife, Edna Griffiths Provost; a stepdaughter, Linda Scheidt of Jackson; three sisters, Helen Lindberg, Jane Ingalls and Joyce Riopel, all of Worcester; a step-granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence Bernard Honig
Mr. Honig, 66, of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro, died Jan. 3 at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he had lived in Newark before moving to Wickatunk. Mr. Honig was a warehouseman for S. Klein, Newark. He is survived by two sisters, Rhoda Cohen of Howell and Pearl Friedman of Freehold; a niece; two nephews; a grandniece and a grandnephew. Graveside services were held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
George M. Sokolowsky
Mr. Sokolowsky, 51, of Marlboro, died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Pittston, Pa., he was raised in East Brunswick and had resided in Marlboro for the past five years. He was a software engineer for Syncsort Inc., Woodcliff Lake, for the past 2 1/2 years and had previously been employed by Lucent Technologies. He was a communicant of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Somerset, and was also a Cubmaster for Pack No. 188, Marlboro. Mr. Sokolowsky was predeceased in 1995 by his father, George. Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Kathleen McNicholas Sokolowsky; two sons, Alex and Nick, both at home; his mother, Alice Shedlock Sokolowsky of East Brunswick; three brothers, William Sokolowsky of Westford, Mass., David Sokolowsky of Downingtown, Pa., and James Sokolowsky of Spotswood; and a sister, Mary Anne Pillo of Newtown, Pa. Funeral services were held at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick, followed by a liturgy at Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, East Brunswick. Interment took place at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Mary C. Gibson
Ms. Gibson, 90, of Freehold Township, died Jan. 4 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jersey City, she had lived there for many years before moving to Freehold Township five years ago. Ms. Gibson was a legal secretary for the law office of Chasan, Leyner and Holland, Jersey City, before retiring in 1980. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City. Ms. Gibson was predeceased by two brothers, John and Joseph Gibson. She is survived by four nephews, including Joseph Gibson of Freehold Township; four nieces; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Patricia Anne Berry
Mrs. Berry, 61, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Jan. 7 at home. Born in New York City, she had resided in Port Monmouth for the past 30 years. Mrs. Berry was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William Berry; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia A. and Robert Bulin, and Shannon Rose Berry, all of the Belford section of Middletown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William J. and Nadera Berry Jr. of Morganville, and James Patrick Berry of Middletown; a sister, Grace De Angelis of West Sulfield, Conn.; a brother, William Selback; and 15 grandchildren. Nathan Nayer
Mr. Nayer, 98, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died Dec. 25 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Russia, he had lived in Florida before moving to Morganville. Mr. Nayer was the owner/operator of a bar and grill before his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose. Surviving are two daughters, Anita Bronfeld and Sheila Dohrman; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by burial at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Marlboro.
Ann Bulmer
Mrs. Bulmer, 76, of Middletown, died Jan. 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she had been a resident of Middletown for 55 years. Mrs. Bulmer was predeceased by her husband, John “Gene” Bulmer, in 2000; and a son, Kevin Bulmer Sr., in 2000. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John E. Jr. and Lori Bulmer of Keansburg, and Dennis M. and Linda Bulmer of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Larry Belmonte of Freehold, Rosemary and Ron Seber of Middletown, and Colleen and Joe Vecchio of Keyport; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, followed by entombment at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport. The John F. Dorothy M. Jenkinson
Mrs. Jenkinson, 95, of Manalapan, died Jan. 7 at The Manor Care Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, she had lived in Kearny and Belleville before moving to Manalapan seven years ago. Prior to retiring in 1975, she was a seamstress for many years at Park Avenue Fashion in Newark. She was a member of Belleville Senior Citizens and the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union Local 21, Newark. Mrs. Jenkinson was predeceased in 1962 by her husband, Francis. Surviving are a son, Arthur Jenkinson of Leonardo; a daughter, Gail Leski of Manalapan; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Interment took place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
John J. Barrett
Mr. Barrett, 77, of Freehold, died Dec. 15 at Care One at Holmdel. Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Matawan before moving to Freehold 43 years ago. Mr. Barrett was an insurance broker for Aon Risk Services, New York City, before retiring in 1993. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Galanti, in 1998. Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barrett; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John J. Barrett Jr. of Escondido, Calif., Thomas and Jean Barrett of Round Rock, Texas, and Richard Barrett of Vista, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Russell Wehrle of Freehold, and Virginia and James Llewellyn of Hopewell; a sister, Mary Joan Kaverick of Kenilworth; and seven grandchildren. Gregory J. Lalko
Mr. Lalko, 57, of Colts Neck, died Jan. 7 at work. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Woodbridge before moving nine years ago to Colts Neck, where he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. He worked as a machinist for General Motors Corp., Linden, for 33 years. Mr. Lalko was predeceased in 1992 by his father, Joseph. Surviving are his wife, Deborah (Chirafesi) Lalko; three sons, Brent and Michael Devlin, and John Sereno, all at home; three daughters, Jill Byarm of Vermont, Michele Hartung of Doylestown, Pa., and Jennifer Dauchez of Paris; his mother, Pauline Lalko of Woodbridge; two brothers, Dennis Lalko of Woodbridge and Thomas Lalko of Lyndhurst; a sister, Andrea Sarnowski of Jersey City; and seven grandchildren. Frederick Solleder
Mr. Solleder, 53, of Atlantic Highlands, died Dec. 24 at his home. Born in Jersey City, he had lived in the Belford section of Middletown and in Highlands before moving to Atlantic Highlands 10 years ago. Mr. Solleder was a butcher for Foodtown in Atlantic Highlands, where he worked for 30 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Solleder. He is survived by his father, Fred Solleder Sr. of Belford; a son, Frederick Solleder of Eatontown; a daughter, Erin Solleder of Delaware; two brothers, Michael Solleder of Philadelphia and Bill Solleder of Ramsey; three sisters, Patricia Boyle of Howell, Beth Brister of Rumson and Linda Dempsey of Highlands; his companion of 20 years, Peggy Byrne of Atlantic Highlands; and several nieces and nephews. Catherine Davis Caldwell
Mrs. Caldwell, 59, of Freehold, died Dec. 25 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was a longtime resident of Institute Street. Mrs. Caldwell was employed at several area schools and colleges, including DeVry Technical Institute, Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, and Georgian Court College, Lakewood, where she retired from her position in alumni affairs in 1993. She was a member of the Monmouth County Republican Committee and ran for Freehold Borough Council in 1991. She also was a member of the Freehold NAACP, the New Jersey Black Republicans, and the Shore Christian Center, Allenwood. Mrs. Caldwell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and William Major of Howell; a son, Richard K. Caldwell Jr., and his partner, Alexa Lugo, of Howell; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard H. Davis Jr. and Raina Davis; five grandchildren; a nephew; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services were held at the Shore Christian Center. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
