Citizens sought for council

Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley has announced the creation of a Citizens Leadership Council to strengthen community ties with the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office through increased dialogue and cooperation. The leadership council will consist of approximately 30 residents selected from across Monmouth County. The first meeting has been scheduled for March 5 to held at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold Township.

On a quarterly basis, the leadership council will meet with Oxley and representatives from the law enforcement, corrections, youth detention and communications divisions. Topics to be covered include the roles and responsibilities of sheriff’s officers, the operation of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution and the recent technology improvements of the sheriff’s office 911 communications center.

Prospective members of the leadership council will be expected to pass a criminal background check and maintain regular attendance at quarterly meetings. Board members will be encouraged to represent their community’s concerns and provide insight on solutions, according to a press release.

Applications for the leadership council are available at the sheriff’s office, 590 East Main Street, Freehold. Interested participants will be subject to a thorough background check. Applications are due by Feb. 4.
