Community members join police officers at National Night Out

MARLBORO – Municipal officials and the Marlboro Police Department hosted Marlboro’s second annual National Night Out event to promote crime prevention and to bring members of the community closer to their law enforcement personnel.

National Night Out took place on Aug. 4 at the Cambridge Square shopping center, Route 9.

National Night Out “is a night to get together with people in our town and be able to talk with us stress free,” said Marlboro Police Officer Bernadette Peter, who coordinated the event.

Restaurant operators gave out free samples of food and businesses held raffles and giveaways. New York Sports Club gave away a children’s birthday party. Home Depot hosted a center for arts and crafts.

Members of the Morganville First Aid Squad conducted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation demonstration. Fire company volunteers performed a rappelling demonstration from a cherry picker. Firefighters also demonstrated the use of the Jaws of Life.

Disney’s “Big Hero 6” was shown at dusk. Mikey’s Ice Cream provided free ice cream for children and ShopRite provided hot dogs and potato chips.
