Terese Jones of Freehold has met certification requirements of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council as a certified avian specialist. This set of credentials is part of a study program of veterinary care and animal husbandry under the PIJAC Certified Animal Specialist Program, which offers six subjects of study: avian, canine, feline, freshwater fish, reptile and small animal.
The program employs seminars taught by veterinarians experienced in particular fields of care and a self-paced home-study workbook program. The course of study includes the proper care and handling of the specific companion pet, dietary needs, environment and sanitation standards, and the identification and treatment of common disorders.
Jim Markey of Manalapan, area manager for Jersey Central Power & Light Co., has been elected to the executive committee of Monmouth County United Way. First Washington Community Foundation, based in Windsor, has donated a computer system to The Arc of Monmouth, to be used by the individuals residing at the Bergerville Group Home, Freehold. The text-to-speech technology will provide the residents who cannot read with the ability to receive e-mail or information from various Web sites. In addition, the educational software will offer the individuals the opportunity to increase their skills in money management, telling time, reading and critical thinking.
The Arc of Monmouth, based in Tinton Falls, was established in 1949 to provided programs and services for children and adults with mental retardation.

Weichert, Realtors has launched a new 800 telephone number for Spanish-speaking callers. In a press release, Weichert reports that a recent survey conducted by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University concluded that Hispanic real estate sellers and purchasers prefer handling business transactions in their native language rather than English.
