MARLBORO — In 1952, a bill was passed in Congress stating that the president was to set aside an appropriate day each year as the National Day of Prayer.
In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed a law designating the first Thursday of May as the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer.
Monmouth Worship Center, 37 Vanderburg Road, Marlboro, will hold three events as part of the National Day of Prayer on May 7, according to a press release from the worship center.
The theme of the National Day of Prayer this year is “Lord, Hear Our Cry.”
“Now more than ever, we need to pray for our country and our leaders,” said Kenneth Jasko, senior pastor. “The prayers of many gathered together are powerful. We encourage our friends and neighbors to join us at our prayer events on the day set aside for national prayer.”
A prayer meeting will be held at the Battle of Monmouth monument in front of the Monmouth County Courthouse, Monument Street, Freehold Borough, at 11 a.m.
“Here, at the county seat, we will cry out to God for His blessings on our towns, our state, our nation and our leaders,” Jasko said. “All are welcome to join us.”
At noon, there will be a prayer service at the church in Marlboro. There will be a full worship prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. All are welcome to join in any service, according to the press release.
