The Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey has announced the schedule for its 19th annual Concerto, Ensemble (for one and two pianos) and Chamber Music competitions.
The competition offers an opportunity to participate in the Festival “Musica in Laguna” (Venice, July 2009). A faculty and administrative affiliation with the festival offers workshops, competitions and recitals for pianists, with a concerto concentration and a chance to perform with the Orchestra Sinfonica del Festival di Chioggia. Prize winners are eligible for a tuition scholarship to this festival.
Events are open to talented and dedicated young pianists in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. The student (ages 4-18) or teacher must reside in those states and become a competition member.
Each category (by age and/or repertoire) will award a first and second place winner, as well as honorable mention. Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given to the highest scores in each division. Winners receive various awards (including certificates, prizes and cash).
The preliminary round is by an audio tape/CD. The recording and the application should be mailed to the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey by Jan. 5. The semifinal round will be held at the Steinway Hall in New York City on Feb. 1. The final round will be a concert that is open to the public, where the finalists will perform in front of an audience and a jury. The final round will take place on Feb. 21 at Steinway Hall.
