Freehold police seeking shooter

FREEHOLD — As of the morning of Aug. 26, Freehold Borough police officers were still searching for a suspect believed to have been involved in the shooting of a 41-year-old borough man in Liberty Street Park a day earlier.

Lt. Mark Wodell said police received a call from Monmouth County dispatch at 5:21 p.m. Aug. 25 for a report of a shooting at the park. He said the man who was shot in the abdomen was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment. Wodell could not give a status of the victim’s injury.

At the News Transcript’s press time on Aug. 26, law enforcement authorities were continuing their investigation into the matter.

The investigation in being handled by Freehold Borough Detective John Reiff and representatives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Responding to the scene initially were Patrolman Keith Bailey, Patrolman Eduardo Santana, Patrolman Samuel Hernandez and Patrolman Sean Healey. Reiff was called and responded to the scene.
