Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City What happens in Las Vegas is now happening inAtlantic City, too, as Vegas icon Golden Nugget celebrated the grand opening of its newest resort, Golden Nugget Atlantic City, with a weekend-long gala from April 26-29.

Golden Nugget has a hotel in Laughlin, Nev., as well.

The theme of the extravaganza, “Everything Gold Is New Again,” was true to its word as hotel and casino guests were greeted in true Las Vegas style, complete with gold-feathered showgirls and the arrival of “The Hand of Faith,” the largest solid gold nugget in the world (under the watchful gaze of armed guards), to mark the culmination of an 11-month, $150 million renovation project that turned the aging Trump Marina Hotel into the ultra-modern, gleaming, golden and totally updated Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino.

Tilman J. Fertitta, owner of Golden Nugget and its parent company, Landry’s Inc., led the champagne toast and cut the ribbon that signified the completion of the hotel’s renovations and the beginning of a revitalized Atlantic City marina district, with Golden Nugget hotel standing at the helm of the adjacent Farley State Marina, which attracts boaters to Atlantic City from all over.

Fertitta’s 164-foot-long superyacht “Boardwalk” docked at the marina with a helicopter on its uppermost deck and was quite a welcoming sight as people drove up to the hotel’s parking deck across from the marina.

Fertitta, who hails from Texas, joked with the crowd as he tried to acclimate himself to New Jersey by changing his “y’alls” to “you guys.” He said he has always loved Atlantic City and assured those in attendance they are here to stay. “Golden Nugget is going to still be around 20 years from now,” Fertitta said. Tracy McDaniel, head of Choose New Jersey (and a Texas native as well), represented Gov. Chris Christie’s office in welcoming Golden Nugget to New Jersey.

Choose New Jersey is a nonprofit organization that works with companies and the governor’s office to create jobs and promote business development.

McDaniel said, “This is truly a great day for New Jersey. Thank you all and Mr. Fertitta for your commitment to New Jersey and to Atlantic City.”

To honor Fertitta and his newest hotel, TLC’s “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro baked a massive cake depicting the entire Golden Nugget hotel, complete with Fertitta’s yacht anchored in the marina.

Numerous special events commemorated the opening of what Golden Nugget is calling Atlantic City’s revitalized worldclass, premier resort destination.
