Huntington Learning Center of Manalapan is joining thousands of schools, students and communities to celebrate National Teacher Day, honoring educators and their important role in society. Sena Salloum of the Manalapan Huntington Learning Center said there are many ways for schools and community members to celebrate their local teachers and to show their appreciation, such as writing essays about a teacher to remember, hanging signs in businesses or schools to recognize teachers, host an event honoring teachers, and more.

Salloum applauded the Manalapan Huntington Learning Center teachers, saying they are passionate about helping children do better in school. Salloum said she is grateful to the Huntington teachers and to teachers everywhere who dedicate their lives to helping children learn.

The Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources will meet from 8-10 a.m. April 12 at the Jumping Brook Country Club, Neptune. Louis R. Lessig, a partner in the law firm of Brown & Connery, will update attendees about a variety of issues facing them in the Family Medical Leave Act. To gain practical understanding and information, everyone’s collective knowledge about issues ranging from military obligations to unforeseen events, pregnancy, and illnesses will be put to the test by competing in the 2012 version of “FMLA Jeopardy.” To register, call Kathi Evans at 732-270- 5204.

Panera Bread is under construction and scheduled to open a café at 31 Route 9 south, Manalapan, on April 30. Panera Bread serves fresh baked, handcrafted artisan breads, baked goods, hand-tossed salads, soups, and signature sandwiches.

Lindsey Pahlck, general manager of the Manalapan bakery café and a resident of Manalapan, said Panera is looking for qualified individuals to apply for bakers’ positions, associates positions and management positions. Panera Bread, Manalapan, will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

As part of Panera’s Community Breadbox program, a portion of all cash donations placed in containers at the register by customers will be matched by Panera Bread and distributed to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

At the end of each day, Panera Bread donates all unsold bread and baked goods to local hunger relief agencies as part of its local Day-End Dough-Nation program. In Manalapan, Panera will be donating to the Samaritan Center.

The children’s newspaper “Kidsville News!” of Monmouth and Ocean counties has been designated a 2012 Parents’ Choice Approved award winner. Awards are given for various types of products.
