Michael Beirne of Manalapan, vice president of the Kamson Corp., was recently elected chair of the advisory board at Drexel University’s Goodwin College of Professional Studies’Property Management Program. John Kelly, director of management for Brandywine Realty Trust, was elected vice chair.

Drexel is the first accredited university to offer residential and commercial property management degrees at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The programs, launched in 2009, offer Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in property management, as well as undergraduate credit certificates in residential property management and commercial property management.

Beirne noted that property management is something of an unnoticed career and said courses in managing a property often are rolled into real estate programs, when in fact it is becoming a highly technical career on its own. He said people do not always have the proper skill sets and his goal is to get better people into the industry.
