The opportunity to own a home in Holmdel is available to homebuyers who are looking for affordable housing. On Oct. 23, Holmdel Township will host an affordable housing open house from 1-4 p.m. at The Orchards condominium and townhouse complex where four affordable units are currently for sale. Interested homebuyers should come to 61 Durant Ave., Holmdel, (The Orchards) for information about the homes for sale. Only homebuyers who are considered low or moderate income are eligible to purchase homes. Currently, there are four condominiums available for purchase in The Orchards, and they range from one, two and three bedrooms. The homes are priced between $79,625 and $152,673, and are based on homebuyers’ income and family size. For example, a family of two will qualify as moderate income if their income does not exceed $58,490, while a single person can make up to $31,978 and be qualified as a low-income applicant.

The 26th annual Athena Award luncheon hosted by the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce will be held on Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Battleground Country Club in Manalapan.

The international Athena Award recognizes an individual for business or professional accomplishments, for community service, and especially for mentoring others and providing a role model to encourage women to achieve their full leadership potential. The Greater Monmouth Chamber is the only organization in New Jersey that sponsors the Athena awards recognition program.

According to Sister Carol Ann Henry, executive director of the Mercy Center in Asbury Park and a 2010 Athena recipient, the luncheon will feature seven women who are the nominees for this year’s award. The selection of the 2011 honoree will be announced at the conclusion of the luncheon. Dr. Jeffrey Ozinitsky, a practicing podiatrist in New York since 1981, has now expanded his business to New Jersey. He is celebrating the opening of a podiatry practice at 176 Route 9 north, Marlboro, in the Northpoint professional building.

His practice philosophy is concerned with treating each patient as though they were a family member, with respect and compassionate care. Illusions Salon and Day Spa, 3475 Route 9 north, Freehold Township, in the A&M Shopping Plaza, will be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October with a “Think Pink” fundraising campaign. Owner, Cathy Pry and her Illusions staff invite members of the community to visit the newly updated salon and show support for the cause by wearing a pink hair extension that can be obtained at the salon for $5 each. OceanFirst Foundation recently presented Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore with a $20,000 check to underwrite the Girls Are Great summer day camp at Georgian Court University. Lakewood, and to provide financial assistance to members in need. This is just one of several grants that Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, which serves more than 15,000 girls throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties with the help of more than 6,000 adult volunteers, has received from the OceanFirst Foundation since the foundation’s inception in 1996.

A business expo hosted by the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and CentraState Healthcare System will be held from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 7 at CentraState Medical Center’s Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus, 901 W.
