New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will be the keynote speaker at this year’s general meeting of the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce on March 31. The theme of the breakfast meeting at the Battleground Country Club, Manalapan, will be economic development, which coincides with a chief goal of the Christie administration. The breakfast is expected to attract between 150 and 200 people. It begins at 8:30 a.m. and the lieutenant governor is scheduled to speak at 9 a.m. The Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce provides opportunities for business growth, serves as a resource leader for businesses and the community and represents 13 municipalities in the western part of Monmouth County. Robert A. McKinley, M.D., and Charles W. Hayne, D.O., have been named “Physicians of theYear” by the CentraState Medical Center medical and nursing staffs, respectively. McKinley, a board-certified pulmonologist with Monmouth Ocean Pulmonary Medicine, is the chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. Hayne is board certified in family medicine and with Medical Associates of Freehold. CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, has more than 500 physicians and allied medical professionals on its medicaldental staff, and has been naming “Physicians of the Year” since 2003.

Dr. Ken A. Verni, clinical psychologist and director of the New Jersey Center for Mindful Awareness, will offer a free introductory talk about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), titled “How to Restore Balance to Our Stressful Lives” at 7:30 p.m. April 11 at the Freehold Jewish Center, 59 Broad St., Freehold. Those who choose to continue can take the subsequent eight-session MBSR course from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Monday evenings at Freehold Jewish Center, beginning May 9. The cost for that program is $500. Desiree Deegan has been named an account representative at Direct Success, a pharmaceutical sales and marketing firm based in Wall Township specializing in support services and regulatory compliance. Deegan has been with Direct Success for nine years and previously worked in the data services department. In her new position she will manage the coordination of trade shows and conventions for one of the company’s prominent clients. She resides in Howell with her husband and son.

Oluseun Sowemimo, M.D.., and Ayotunde Adeyeri, M.D., have joined Central Jersey Bariatrics to expand the practice and accommodate growing patient demand. MorrisWashington, M.D., who founded the practice, will continue on as a consultant.

Sowemimo, who leads the general surgical practice, Prime Surgicare, Freehold Township, completed his residency training at Columbia University’s Harlem Hospital Center, N.Y., where he was appointed chief resident from 2004-05. He obtained fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic, robotic and open bariatric surgery at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, Conn.

Adeyeri, who leads the surgical practice Sterling Surgicare, Holmdel, also completed his general surgery residency at Columbia University’s Harlem Hospital Center where he was appointed chief resident from 2006-07. He completed an advanced fellowship in minimally invasive, bariatric, and GI surgery at the University of Rochester, N.Y.

Both surgeons are affiliated with CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township; Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel; and Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge.

Kurt M. Kalafsky of Howell was installed as secretary of the New Jersey chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA-NJ) at the organization’s annual awards gala held recently at Carl Icahn Laboratory at Princeton University.

Kalafsky was among nine AIA-NJ officers installed at the event, which also celebrated the top achievements among architects and architectural companies throughout the state with service and design awards.

Kalafsky is a founding principal and chief technology officer of the Iselin-based Aztec Corp. and Aztec Architects LLC, which specialize in creating a better approach to the traditional disciplines of architecture in the business world.

Aztec’s portfolio consists of projects varying in size up to 350,000 square feet, including professional, corporate, educational, institutional, hospitality, retail, and research and development facilities.

Kalafsky’s responsibilities include integrating the latest technology, business development, project management, supervision and production of technical and computer aided drafting and design for clients’ facility needs.
