Mrs. Gibney, 85, of River Edge, died Dec. 30, 2007. Born in Philadelphia, she was the fifth daughter of Barbara and Alexander Mack and the sister of Mary, Helen, Laura, Alice, Theodore and Arthur. Mrs. Gibney graduated from St. Monica’s Catholic High School in Philadelphia and in late 1944 enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), the women’s branch of the U.S. Army. She met her husband while stationed in Vienna, Austria, and they were married in 1948. She was one of the original members of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Edge. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Surviving are her husband, Gerard; five children and their spouses, Gerard Jr. and Jane Gibney, and Maryann and Gordon Loh, all of Darien, Conn., Brian and Beth Gibney of Alexandria, Va., Eileen and Dr. Bruce Karmel of Marlboro, and Jean and Peter Scannell of Greenwich, Conn.; and 13 grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. Beaugard Funeral Home, River Edge, was in charge of arrangements.
