Genevieve Dowdell Courter

Mrs. Courter, 90, of Hazlet, died Sept. 18 at home. Born in Cranford, she resided in Newark before moving to Hazlet 41 years ago. Before her retirement, Mrs. Courter was a sales clerk at Sears, Newark and Middletown, where she was employed for 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Giles H. Courter; and a grandson, Giles Courter Jr. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Peter Bacus of Howell, and Fernanda and Theodoros Plagianakos of Hazlet; a son and daughter-in-law, Giles H. and Susan Courter of Wantaugh, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sept. 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sept. 22 at 10:45 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Kimball V. Oxley

Mr. Oxley, 52, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Sept. 18 at home. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he resided in Massachusetts prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach 15 years ago. He was a sales engineer at AO Smith, Ohio, for 22 years. He was predeceased by his father, Vincent Oxley. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wilson Oxley of Cliffwood Beach; two daughters, Rebecca Oxley and Katie Oxley, both of Long Island, N.Y.; a son, Randall Oxley of Manalapan; a brother, Randall Oxley of Massachusetts; two sisters, Laura Oxley and Heather Gwinn, both of Massachusetts; his mother, Marjorie Oxley of Concord, Mass.; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 22 at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

Charles Maher

Mr. Maher, 73, of East Brunswick, formerly of Manalapan, died Aug. 20 at home. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary; three sons, Charles “Bill” of Poway, Calif., Edward of Logan and James of Howell; two daughters, Kathleen Maher of West Orange and Patricia Natalicchio of East Brunswick; and eight grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, Marlboro. Interment was private. Arrangements were under the direction of Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.

Jean Kae DeLorenzo

Mrs. DeLorenzo, 86, of Old Bridge, died Aug. 29 in Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Prior to her retirement in 1979, she was a cosmetologist with Two Guys, Manalapan, where she worked for 16 years. Her husband, Pasquale “Pat,” died in 1979. Surviving are three sons, Robert Anderson of Waxhaw, N.C., David DeLorenzo of the Morgan section of Sayreville and Michael Guseman of Hamilton; a daughter, Patricia DeLorenzo of Old Bridge; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to Reformed Church Home, 1990 Route 18, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.

Mary Rantinella

Mrs. Rantinella, 90, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township two years ago. She was predeceased in 1984 by her husband, Paul, and in 2003 by a son, Vincent. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise Rantinella of Freehold Township, and Josephine and Joe Leto of Manalapan; two brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Dancer

Mr. Dancer, 78, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died Sept. 8. Born in New Jersey, he had been a resident of the New Egypt section of Plumsted. A legend in the horse racing industry, Mr. Dancer was the only horseman, trotting or thoroughbred, to have won three Triple Crowns — one in pacing and two in trotting. He was the recipient of numerous awards and set several records during his 50-year career, and was inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1969. He was a director of the U.S. Trotting Association since 1959 and a director of the Hambletonian Society. He hosted the N.J. Sire Stakes at his farm for 16 years, with all proceeds going to charity. Mr. Dancer was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, Harold, Thomas and Vernon Dancer. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jody; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Brenda Dancer, and Stanley Richard Dancer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and David Moyher, and Shaldonna and Jeffrey Chaisson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, and was followed by one last trip around Freehold Raceway. Interment took place at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Pearl Servetah

Mrs. Servetah, of Freehold, died Sept. 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Poland, she had lived in Freehold for the past 17 years but had previously lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Temner of New City, N.Y.; two sons, Charles Servetah of Melville, N.Y., and Neil Servetah of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

Guy Michael Callahan

Mr. Callahan, 70, of Freehold, died Sept. 9 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Sayreville, he had lived in Spotswood for 36 years before moving to Freehold 10 years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Callahan was an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 358, Perth Amboy, for 48 years, and was chairman of the local’s executive board. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church, South River, and a member of the Spotswood Knights of Columbus Council No. 4907, where he was a fourth degree grand knight. Mr. Callahan was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Jack Callahan. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Hode Callahan; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rene Callahan of Spotswood; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mark Alston of Monroe Township; a brother, James Callahan of Florida; and two granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.

Sherry Robin Cohen

Mrs. Cohen, 45, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 9 at her home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided there until moving to Freehold Township 11 years ago. Mrs. Cohen was a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She earned her bachelor of science degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn. Surviving are her husband, Steven Cohen; a son, Richard, and a daughter, Randi, both at home; her mother, Harriet Franzel of Monroe Township; a brother, Larry Franzel of Freehold Township; and a sister, Deborah Cohen of Queens, N.Y. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Marlboro.
