Hobby Lobby Stores, a privately held national retail chain of arts and crafts stores, opened its doors in Marlboro with a ribboncutting ceremony and official grand opening celebration on July 8. Local dignitaries, the mayor, ambassadors from the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, and other business leaders were scheduled to be on hand to help with the celebration.
The 60,000-square-foot retail facility, formerly occupied by Pathmark, is at Route 9 and Route 520, in the Marlboro Plaza. This is Hobby Lobby’s third location in New Jersey.
Departments include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, arts and crafts, wearable art, and jewelry, scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies. Dr. Liam Schübel of Freehold, a chiropractic physician, was named Regent of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. The award was presented in recognition of Dr. Schübel’s advancement of Sherman College through participation on the college’s Board of Regents, a group dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through financial donations and leadership.
Dr. Schübel is a co-founder of The Best Mission Trip Ever, which takes chiropractic care to geographically and economically isolated communities of the world. In addition to the multiple chiropractic clinics he has established in Lima, Peru, and elsewhere, Dr. Schübel is executive director of Schubel Vision Communication Seminars and founder of the Peruvian Chiropractic Alliance.
Each season Master Park’s Black Belt America adds new designs and items to its apparel line. Valerie Randazzo submitted the winning design in the first Spring Tshirt Design Contest. This contest was open to all students in grades K-12 around New Jersey. Valerie’s winning design will be featured on T-shirts that will be available for purchase in all four of Master Park’s locations, Freehold Township, Marlboro, Wall Township and Franklin Lakes. LeTip’s Freehold chapter, a businessto business networking group, holds an annual scholarship competition to help fund the college education of high school students. This year, four seniors from four high schools were awarded scholarships. The winners were Gabrielle Buchinder of Freehold Township High School, Ashley Chicola of Middletown North High School, Jessie Fifield of Colts Neck High School and Lara Brindisi of Howell High School. The total amount of scholarships was $4,000. Le Tip of Freehold holds a breakfast meeting every Thursday morning from 6:55 to 8:31 a.m. at the American Hotel, Freehold.
CentraState Medical Center is hosting a farmers market from July 10 to Aug. 28 at the Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus, 901 W. Main St., Freehold Township. The market will feature local fruit, vegetables, honey, baked goods and more. The farmers market will be open every Wednesday (weather permitting) from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participating farms include From the Garden, Rifkin Farms, The Farm, Clayton Farms, Kaufman Farms, Shangri La Farm and Artisserie Bakery.
