Obituaries Janet C. Wehrle

Mrs. Wehrle, 48, of Freehold Township died Nov. 17 at home. Born in Queens, N.Y., she lived in Middletown before moving to Freehold Township 14 years ago. A 1977 graduate of Trenton State College, Ewing, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing, Mrs. Wehrle worked as a registered nurse for Red Bank Endoscopy Center before retiring in December 1999. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Daniel; two sons, Daniel Jr. and Eric; her mother, Elizabeth Cirner of Freehold; a brother, Stephen Cirner of Toms River; and a sister, Marilyn Baker, Toms River. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Mausoleum, Freehold Township.

Gloria A. Dobhan

Mrs. Dobhan, 67, of Englishtown died Nov. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she lived in the Bronx, N.Y., before moving to Englishtown 37 years ago. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kimberly Dobhan of Suffolk, Va.; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly and Kyle Fisher of Oswego, Ill., and Heather Dobhan of Manasquan. Tammy L. Kennedy

Mrs. Kennedy, 39, of Lakewood died Oct. 17 at Leisure Chateau Care Center, Lakewood. Born in Lakewood, she was a certified nurse’s aide. She is survived by three daughters, Valerie Castronova and Stephanie Suttors, both of Florida, and Kimberly Kennedy of Freehold; her mother, Janet Burroughs of Brick; and a sister, Jennifer Burroughs, also of Brick. A funeral service was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.

Lucille Ranello Favorito

Mrs. Favorito, 64, of Red Bank died Nov. 20 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in New York City, she resided in Middletown prior to moving to Red Bank 10 years ago. She was a debt collector at United Teletech Federal Credit Union, Tinton Falls, the past five years. Prior to that, she was employed at Wholesale Warehouse, Red Bank, and McGraw Hill, New York City and Hightstown. Mrs. Favorito is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark Favorito of Freehold, and Mitchel and Kristen Favorito of Tinton Falls; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Favorito and David Walunas of Aberdeen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Danny Galante of Baldwin, N.Y., and Anne and Jack Blatt of Flushing, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Eileen Patricia Whitty Pape

Mrs. Pape, 78, of Freehold died Oct. 29 at Monmouth Crossing, Freehold. She was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and lived in Matawan before moving to Freehold one year ago. Mrs. Pape was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Pape Jr. in 1992; and two sisters, Loretto Laverde and Helen Whitty. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Pape III and his wife, Caryn, and David Pape and his wife, Nancy, all of Millstone; three daughters, Debra Pape Hartmann, and her husband, James, Mercerville; Barbara Pape Aaron, and her husband, Andy, Ardsley, N.Y.; and Diane Pape, Freehold; six sisters, Mary Whitty, Joan Hemsworth, Dolores Connolly, Jean Kavanaugh, Anne Brandefine and Kathleen Polomene; and nine grandchildren. Arrangements were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. The funeral liturgy was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold Township, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick. Rose M. Murphy

Mrs. Murphy, 69, of Farmingdale died Nov. 20 at home. Born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., she had lived in Pleasantville, N.Y., before moving to Farmingdale in 1953. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale. Surviving are her husband, Robert B. Murphy; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert B. Jr. and JoAnn Murphy of Farmingdale; a daughter, Barbara Ann MacKenzie, also of Farmingdale; two brothers, Joe Loquercio of Pleasantville and Rocco Lewis of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Madeline Antonecchia of Pleasantville; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards officiating. Rose S. Zeiber

Mrs. Zeiber, 96, of Hampden, Maine, formerly of Howell, died Nov. 20 at home. Born in Capetown, South Africa, she arrived in the United States in October 1907 and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., with two sisters and a brother. She attended the University of Wisconsin and New York University, majoring in English literature and philosophy. From 1935-41 she lived with her husband in what is now Israel. She taught English in both Israel and the United States, retiring in 1973 from the New York City school system. She spent her retirement folk dancing and traveling overseas, visiting many countries that included Nepal, New Guinea, Turkey, China and Russia. Surviving are her longtime partner, Sam Kron; a daughter and son-in-law, Dara and Martin Perfit; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Elizabeth "Billie" MacLellan Roy

Mrs. Roy, 92, a former resident of Freehold and Wolcott, Vt., died Nov. 21 at Copley Manor in Morrisville, Vt. She had been a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred, in 1990, seven siblings, and a grandson in 1984. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Emily Roy Cooper of Thayne, Wyo.; Janice Roy and Steven Young of Wolcott; Charlotte Roy-Guido and Nicholas Guido of Freehold; a son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Deborah Roy of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Hardwick, Vt., with the Rev. Susan Tobias officiating. The Malcolm R. Davis Funeral Home, Craftsbury Common, Vt., was in charge of arrangements. Nellie Gertrude Wenzel

Mrs. Wenzel, 90, of Doylestown, Pa., died Nov. 21 at Pine Run Health Center, Doylestown. She was born in the Morganville section of Marlboro, where she was a longtime resident. Mrs. Wenzel was a teacher at Matawan Elementary School and Ravine Drive School, Matawan, as well as several one-room schoolhouses. She was a lifetime member of the Morganville Methodist Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Liberty Grange of Marlboro. Mrs. Wenzel was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Wenzel, in 1999; four sisters; and three brothers. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Winfried Kraus of Horsham, Pa.; a sister, Gladys MacNish; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Interment was at Green Grove Cemetery, Keyport. The Bedle Funeral Home, Matawan, was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Jack "Tony" Hyman

Dr. Hyman, 85, of Freehold died Nov. 23 at home after a lengthy illness. Born in McKees Rock, Pa., he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh’s undergraduate and dental schools. In 1951 he moved to Freehold, where he established a dental practice and worked as a dentist for nearly 50 years. An avid baseball fan who played in softball leagues until the age of 82, he had been a manager in the Freehold Little League in the 1960s and ’70s and later resumed his own baseball-playing career as a softball pitcher and catcher on senior league teams, becoming the oldest player ever — at age 83 — to attend the Cal Ripkin Baseball Fantasy Camp. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hyman; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Hyman and Janine Pratt of Cheltenham, Pa., Mark Hyman and Dr. Cecilia Brennecke of Baltimore, and David Hyman and Farah Jimenez of Philadelphia; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to the Freehold Borough Little League, P.O. Peter Remo

Mr. Remo, 91, of Freehold died Nov. 23 at home. Born in Montagano, Campobasso (Molise), Italy, he had lived in Elizabeth from 1954 until 2000, when he and his wife moved to Freehold. He was a street mechanic for the Elizabethtown Gas Co., Elizabeth, where he was employed from 1954-77. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a former communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, Elizabeth. He was also a member of La Societa Montaganese in Elizabeth and a solicitor each year for the St. Anthony’s Feast Day celebration in his hometown of Italy. Surviving are his wife, Cesina Marcantonio Remo; a son, Mario Remo of Freehold; three daughters, Anna Hyjack and Antoinette Nimick, both of Freehold, and Carmela Hoffman of Marlboro; a sister, Rose Remo of Rome, Italy; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by entombment at St. Gertrude’s Mausoleum, Colonia.

Margaret Price

Mrs. Price, 89, of Howell died Nov. 24 at home. Born in Lakewood, she was a lifelong area resident. She received a bachelor of science degree from Trenton State Teacher’s College. (now The College of New Jersey), Ewing, and worked as a laboratory technician at Fort Monmouth for 30 years, retiring in the late 1970s. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Lakewood, and a 50-year member and former secretary of the Southard Grange, Howell, as well as a former member of the Southard Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, also in Howell. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, in 2000. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Margaret Stringer of Springfield, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, with the Rev. Richard Wrede officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lakewood. Mary DiBenedetto

Mrs. DiBenedetto, 92, of Freehold died Nov. 26 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a lifetime resident of Freehold. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Dominick Cerrato, in 2002. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Barney and Peggy DiBenedetto of Freehold; a daughter, Mary Cerrato of Colts Neck; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph F. DiBono

Mr. DiBono, 72, of Freehold Township died Nov. 26 at home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. A Korean War veteran, he was a managing director for Financial Depository Trust Co., New York City. He was predeceased by his wife, RoseMarie DiBono, and is survived by a son, Charles DiBono. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, West Hempstead, N.Y., followed by interment at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, N.Y.

Robert J. Horst

Mr. Horst, 74, of Manalapan died Oct. 31 at home. Born in Honesdale, Pa., he lived in Kearny before moving to Manalapan. He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons, Robert, Roy, John and Steven; and three granddaughters. A service was held at Marlboro Chapel, Marlboro, followed by entombment.

Mary F. Shields

Mrs. Shields, 90, of Silvermead, Freehold Township, died Nov. 9 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, she lived in Keansburg for 25 years before moving to Freehold Township. For 18 years she was a telephone operator for Tel Answer Phone Service in New York City, retiring in 1975. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, a member of the Silvermead Community Club, and a member of the Mobile Homeowners Association. She was predeceased in 1997 by her husband of 65 years, James J. Shields. Surviving are two sons, James J. Shields Jr. of Chamblee, Ga., and Kevin Francis Shields of New York City; two daughters, Ann Marie Cowie of Freehold Township and Geraldine Boyle of Fairless Hills, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold Borough, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.

Marian E. Kerner

Mrs. Kerner, 82, of Freehold Township died Nov. 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Bloomfield, she lived in Summit before moving to Freehold Township 39 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, and a former Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold Township. She was a volunteer for the St. Rose of Lima School library and the Freehold Township High School Booster Club. She was predeceased by a brother, James Conklin. Surviving are her husband, William J. Kerner; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin L. and Cristina Kerner of East Windsor; three daughters and a son-in-law, Marianne Kerner of Riverdale, N.Y., Ellen Kerner of Freehold Township, and Kimberley and John Richard of Old Bridge; a brother, David Conklin of Byram Township; and five grandchildren. Alfonso Andretta

Mr. Andretta, 90, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Freehold, died Nov. 7 at Kindred Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Born in New York, he lived in Freehold before moving to West Palm Beach 57 years ago. He worked as a carpet installer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, West Palm Beach. He was predeceased by three brothers, Carmen, Arthur and Tommy Andretta. Surviving are two sisters, Ann Baldwin of Howell and Helen Byrne of Freehold; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.

John L. Redner

Mr. Redner, 58, of Freehold died Nov. 27 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, he had lived in Lyndhurst, Novato, Calif., and Manalapan before moving to Freehold last month. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was an equities trader for Midwood Securities in New York City and Montgomery Securities in Freehold. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, as well as a member of the Yorktowne Social Club of Manalapan and the Security Traders Association of New York (STANY). Surviving are his wife, Mary Jean; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Stefano Cipolletta of Monroe and Meredith and John Herold Jr. of Jamesburg; his parents, Lena and Lawrence Redner of Lyndhurst; three brothers, William Redner of Stamford, Conn., Lawrence Redner of San Diego and Thomas Redner of Nutley; a sister, Mary Lou Thumm of Brick; and a grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
