Police probe break-in
at Manalapan camp
MANALAPAN — The person or persons who broke into a local day camp left leads for police to follow.
Manalapan Police Capt. Michael Rumola told the News Transcript on Monday that police believe the break-in that occurred over the weekend at the Country Roads Day Camp, Pine Brook Road, was the work of area juveniles.
Rumola said a maintenance shed at the rear of the camp was broken into sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.
According to Rumola, a plumber’s torch was first used in an attempt to break into the shed. Failing to accomplish that, Rumola said the vandals used a bolt-cutter to break the lock on the shed door.
He said two golf carts were removed from the shed and several vending machines on the property were vandalized.
The captain said the leads will likely help police apprehend the perpetrators.
