Wayward bull deserves to have a home where he can roam free forever

Iwant to run. I have told many family and friends that if I were queen I would change a lot of the laws in this country. But we are not in England. And for the most part, queens are only in fairy tales. And fairy tales have happy endings, don’t they?

As I read an article in the May 21 News Transcript, “Wayward Bull Caught; Finds Home at Area Farm,” it made me so mad that I wanted to be queen. I thought it would be a sweet story about a baby bull weighing 1,500 pounds that was saved from harm’s way as it “somehow” got loose from its mysterious owner and was roaming about the town of Millstone (and Manalapan) on Mother’s Day.

This baby bull did not do any damage or hurt anyone. When the bull was finally caught, he was not aggressive, but placid. It was estimated that the bull was only 6 months old. An area farmer decided to keep the bull on his farm since no one came to claim him. He proceeded to say that he would consider selling him for slaughter.

For slaughter?

First, I find it despicable that this bull doesn’t have an owner, although what responsible person doesn’t know when their bull is missing?

Second, this bull is a baby – how horrible that on Mother’s Day some human casually says that he would consider slaughtering a baby. It doesn’t surprise me considering some of the people living in our towns who think nothing about killing deer whether it is (with) a gun or a car.

When these same people fly down our streets and think about nothing when they hit, maim and kill cats, dogs, squirrels, opossums, or raccoons. Why can’t we save and protect our animals and have more compassion?

I saw a story on TV about a man who pulled over on a major highway in California because there was a deer on the side of the road. People were passing by, thinking the deer was dead, but he stopped. He called animal control cops and soon there was a local vet, sheriff ‘s office and fire department all at the scene. They could see that the deer was in bad shape and to their amazement, they noticed that the doe was pregnant.

They managed to save her fawn, but sadly, the mother died. The “baby” is all grown up today living in a wildlife sanctuary. When they asked the man why he stopped and pulled over that day, he simply said, “You have to try.”

We don’t know why the bull was running around town, maybe he was trying to find a better home. If this was a fairy tale, the bull would live happily ever after munching on grass with his friends. Yes, if I were queen, I would send the bull to Best Friends Animal Society where he could live with other abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

This is not a fairy tale, but please don’t kill this bull; let him live happily ever after. Well, I can’t run for queen, but I should run for office.
