Anthony Luongo
Mr. Luongo, 82, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 29, 2007, at home. Born in Orange, he had resided in Freehold Township for the past 37 years. Mr. Luongo received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and a law degree from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Mass. He was a trial lawyer for 40 years, initially in private practice in Elizabeth. He served as an assistant prosecutor in charge of the Union County Grand Jury and for many years was a senior lawyer for the St. Paul Insurance Co. in New Jersey. While in private practice, he worked with the late Arthur Sills, former New Jersey attorney general, and also was in partnership with the late Alan Karcher, former leader of the New Jersey Assembly. Mr. Luongo served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. In addition, he founded a chapter of the Lions Club in Elizabeth. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Marlene Luongo; two sons, David Luongo of Freehold and Michael Luongo of Manhattan, N.Y.; three daughters, Esther Luongo Psarakis and husband Takis of Bridgewater, and Claudia Luongo and Julia Luongo McArdle and husband James, all of Roosevelt; a brother, Michael Luongo of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Johanna LaVia of Canton, Conn.; two grandchildren; and a niece and two nephews. Vera Modeste Murray
Mrs. Murray, 53, of Manalapan, died Sept. 10, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York, she was raised in Pensacola, Fla., where she was a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church. She moved to New Jersey eight years ago, settling in Manalapan. Prior to retiring in 2003, she worked for Verizon for 30 years as a repair technician. She was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Surviving are her husband, Dr. Carl Murray Jr.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph Smallwood of Pensacola, and Douglas and Flossie Smallwood of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Ronald Thames of St. Louis; her stepmother, Priscilla Hamilton of Teaneck; her mother-in-law, Lillie Rawlerson of East Orange; three aunts, Beatrice Willis of Montclair, Roxy Rozier of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ruth Marshall of Teaneck; an uncle, Clarence Willis of New York City; and many nieces and nephews. Interment and a graveside service were held at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. William “Bill” W. Davison
Mr. Davison, 79, of Colts Neck, died Sept. 11, 2007, at home. Born in New Brunswick, he had lived in Jamesburg before moving to Colts Neck in 1977. He was an engineer with the Department of the Army Research and Development in Fort Monmouth. As chief of the Phase II Terminals Division, U.S. Army Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Agency, he received numerous letters of commendation and appreciation for his work, including an Army Research and Development Achievement Award. After retiring in 1984 with more than 30 years of service, Mr. Davison began consulting for major aerospace companies in the area of satellite communications. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War as a presidential guard for President Harry Truman at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Marine Corps League’s Cpl. Philip A. Reynolds Detachment No. 203 and American Legion Post No. 54, both of Freehold. He was also an exempt fireman with the Jamesburg Fire Department. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lily Davison; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patti Davison of Piney Flats, Tenn.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Skaggs of Piney Flats, Pamela and Gerry Dobenski of Monroe, and Kimberly Fay of Freehold Township; a sister, Nancy Groener of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Salvatore V. Masiello
Mr. Masiello, 85, of Matawan, died Sept. 11, 2007, at his summer home in Monmouth Beach. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident. He was a production supervisor at E.I. DuPont, Parlin, for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He served with thee U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of, usher at, and member of the St. Joseph Holy Name Society at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He was a former Matawan Borough councilman, and served on the Planning Board and Health Department. He was a past president of the Matawan Democratic Club, and Matawan Little League. He was an avid golfer, and shot a hole- in- one at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Berardicelli Masiello; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert and Frances of Freehold, and John of Monmouth Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Edward Black of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement’s Church. Burial with military honors was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day funeral Home, Keyport.
Henry “Hank” M. Woods
Mr. Woods, 92, of Freehold, died Sept. 20, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He spent his last years in residence at the John L. Montgomery Care Center in Freehold Township. Mr. Woods was a farmhand for several local farms. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II as a wiper aboard the SS Sherman O. Houghton. Interment took place at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Pittenger Statesir
Mrs. Statesir, 100, of Lakewood, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Harrogate adult community, Lakewood. Born in Freehold, she had resided in Point Pleasant and Freehold before moving to Lakewood in 1993. She was a charter member of The Church in Brielle; a former member of the Reformed Church of Freehold; a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Francis Hopkinson-Monmouth Court House Chapter, Freehold; a member and past president of the Cecilian Music Club of Freehold; a charter member of the Freehold Woman’s Club; and a member of Monmouth Grange No. 92 of Freehold. Mrs. Statesir was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, William A. Statesir Sr., in 1992, as well as a sister, Marion P. McIlvane, in 2000. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. Jr. and Helen Statesir of Portland, Texas, and John L. Sr. and Audrey Statesir of Jackson; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 15 greatgreat grandchildren. Philip Rosenthal
Mr. Rosenthal, 93, of Manalapan, died Sept. 21, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Monticello, N.Y., and had lived in Passaic for 34 years before moving to the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan 31 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was a mechanic for Manhattan Transit Co., New York City, for 26 years. Mr. Rosenthal was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 2003. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Janice Rosenthal of Howell; a daughter, Irene Buchalter of Clementon; a brother, Aron Rosenthal of Monticello; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton.
Walter S. Styczynski
Mr. Styczynski, 88, of Marlboro, died Sept. 13, 2007, at home. He was born in Adams, Mass., and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Marlboro 20 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1983, he was a maintenance supervisor for Con Edison, Manhattan, N.Y., for 35 years. Mr. Styczynski served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta, in 2005. Surviving are two sons and daughtersin law, Walter and Diane Styczynski of Freehold, and Roger and Marianne Styczynski of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Robert Siniscalchi of Manalapan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel’s Main Church, Marlboro, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. Anne M. Haveron
Mrs. Haveron, 99, of Summerfield, Fla., died Sept. 15, 2007, in Summerfield. She was a former longtime resident of Manalapan before moving to Florida two years ago and had previously lived in Newark. She was a former communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Mrs. Haveron was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1975, as well as two sons, Thomas and James, and a daughter, Patricia. Surviving are a son, John Haveron of Belleview, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Gene Reardon of Aiken, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
