Eileen M. Morgan

Mrs. Morgan, 70, of Farmingdale, died Aug. 21, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Elizabeth, she was raised in Belmar and had lived in Brick before moving to Farmingdale in 1967. She was the night manager at Pat’s Diner, Belmar, from 1959 until her retirement in 1990. Mrs. Morgan was a parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale. She also was a member of the Farmingdale Historical Society and served as the secretary for Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale. She was predeceased by a son, Robert W. “Abe” Morgan Jr., in 2005, as well as a brother, Henry “Bill” Gillespie. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Robert W. Morgan Sr.; two sons, Michael “Mike” Morgan of Howell and John “Jay” Morgan of Farmingdale; two daughters, Cindy Jennings of Howell and Karen Morgan of Farmingdale; a daughterin law, Deborah “Debbie” Morgan of Manchester Township; two sisters, Jane L. Zonkle of Brick and Patricia Folk of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale. Shirley E. MacKenzie

Mrs. MacKenzie, 69, of Howell, died Aug. 23, 2007, at home. She was born in Newark and had lived there before moving to Howell. Prior to retiring in 2002, she was a toll collector for the Garden State Parkway Authority for 12 years. Mrs. MacKenzie was a parishioner of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Howell. She was also a member of a toll collectors union. Surviving are her husband, Douglas MacKenzie; a son, Donald MacKenzie of Howell; three daughters, Deborah Deane of Lanoka Harbor, Ocean County, Kimberly Leyden of Howell and Kelly Morrell of Sewell, Gloucester County; two sisters, Betty Lou Fenney of Florida and Joan Van Pamel of Wisconsin; and six grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Veronica’s Church, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, Bergen County. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.

Marylou Emmons

Mrs. Emmons, 67, of Farmingdale, died Aug. 29, 2007, at Meridian Health’s Manor by the Sea at Ocean Grove. She valiantly fought cancer for 20 years. Born in Allentown, she settled in Farmingdale in the 1960s and received a degree from Trenton State Teachers College. Mrs. Emmons was the manager at Timm’s Variety Store, Manasquan, and had previously been an elementary school physical education teacher for the Howell Township Board of Education. She was also a volunteer at the Howell Township Library. Surviving are her husband, Robert H. Emmons of Brick; two sisters, Virginia Lemaster of Mary Esther, Fla., and Kathleen Laird of Wrightstown, Burlington County; and two nieces and three nephews. A memorial gathering was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Howell Library, 318 Old Tavern Road, Howell, NJ 07731.

Susan D. Semrad

Mrs. Semrad, 83, of Howell, died Aug. 31, 2007, at home. Born in Madera, Pa., she had lived in Long Island, N.Y., and in Lakewood before moving to Howell a few weeks ago. She was employed for 32 years by the New York Telephone Co., New York City, retiring as a custom relations manager in 1985. Mrs. Semrad was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and also sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra during the 1940s. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, in 1995. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Anthony Gerbasi, with whom she had lived; a sister, Mary Mayer of Farmingdale, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Frank, Danielle and Nicole Gerbasi. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private.

Thomas Gowen

Mr. Gowen, 59, of Freehold Township, died Aug. 24, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in New Brunswick and had resided in the Freehold area for many years. A graduate of New Brunswick High School, he attended the University of Miami in Florida, as well as many professional development schools, including Ford Marketing Institute, U.S. Jaycees Management College and General Motors University. He was employed for the past year as a general manager for Circle Chevrolet, Shrewsbury. Prior to that, he was a manager for Kelle Chevrolet in Howell, Brunswick Pontiac Buick GMC in East Brunswick, Sansone Auto Network in Perth Amboy, and Whelan Pontiac Buick GMC, George Hughes Chevrolet GEO and S.B. King and Son Inc., all of Freehold Township. Mr. Gowen was a supporter of the Best Friends Animal Society. He was also an active member of the Freehold community. He was past director of the Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the YMCA of Western Monmouth County, a past president of the Freehold Area Jaycees and a Jaycees International senator, a past district chairman of the Boy Scouts of America’s Monmouth Council, a past president of the Freehold Republican Club, a member of the Monmouth County Republican Club and the Oldsmobile Vanguard Sales Club, a Cadillac master manager and a GMC sales master. Mr. Gowen was predeceased by his wife, Pamela J. Gowen, in 2005. Surviving are two brothers, Gerald D. Gowen of South River and Richard Gowen of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Loretta “Jeannie” Bollinger of North Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Sandje S. Ivanchukov

Mr. Ivanchukov, 47, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., died Aug. 29, 2007, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Neptune Township, he was raised in Howell and graduated from Howell High School. While at Howell High School, he became nationally recognized as a rising soccer star and high school All-American. He then played for the U.S. National Soccer Team, traveling all over the world as part of Team America. Mr. Ivanchukov became the first high-schooler ever to be drafted in the North American Soccer League, first by the Tampa Bay Rowdies and later by the San Jose Earthquakes. A graduate of DeVry Technical Institute in New Jersey, he majored in computer robotics and traveled extensively throughout the U.S., working closely with many major worldwide pharmaceutical corporations in operations and as a consultant. He was predeceased by his mother, Katia Ivanchukov, in 2002. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Saran Ivanchukov and Katia Ivanchukov, both of Manahawkin; his father, Saran Ivanchukov of Howell; a sister, Nogan Spitzer of Freehold; and two brothers, Khyen Ivanchukov of Middletown, N.Y., and Mandje Ivanchukov of Howell. A funeral service was held at the Rashi-Lhunpo Buddhist Temple, Howell, followed by interment at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Jackson. Mary C. Greiner

Mrs. Greiner, 94, of Freehold, died Aug. 30, 2007, at Bartley Health Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Jackson. Born in Belgium, she had lived in Hoboken before moving to Holiday City, Toms River. Mrs. Greiner was a homemaker. She was a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, Toms River, and was a member of the Hoboken Chapter of Deborah. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, John B., and in 1995 by a son, John G. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Joseph Cocuzza of Freehold, with whom she had most recently lived; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Rosemarie Greiner of Hoboken; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale, followed by burial in Whiting Memorial Park, Whiting. Judith A. Bendik

Mrs. Bendik, 69, of Jackson, died Aug. 30, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in the Dongan Hills section of Staten Island, N.Y., and in Marlboro before moving to Jackson in 2002. Prior to retiring in 1983, she was an executive secretary, purchaser and trader for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, New York City. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Women’s Golf Club at the Westlake Golf and Country Club, Jackson. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Rona Reinhard of Manalapan, and her fiancé, Rick Sharp, and Stacy and Michael Harrington of Jackson; a son and daughter in-law, David and Maryjo Torosian of Jackson; a sister, Virginia Blitzman of California; seven grandchildren; and her companion, Raymond LaMorte of Jackson. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Park. George Elff

Mr. Elff, 63, of Lake Alfred, Fla., died of cancer Sept. 1, 2007, in Lake Alfred. Born in New Brunswick, he had lived in Freehold before moving to Lake Alfred 14 years ago. He was a retired electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local Union No. 400, Wall Township. Mr. Elff was an avid fisherman and a member of the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers Bass Club in Florida. Surviving are his wife, Vera; a son and a daughter, Jody of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Amanda of Winter Haven, along with her fiancé, Chris Heath; his mother-in-law, Vera Addison of Lake Alfred; and a brother-in-law, Lee Gilliard, and his wife, Shirley, of Auburndale, Fla. A memorial service was held at Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale.

Gloria Singer Goldner

Mrs. Goldner, 78, of Manchester, died Sept. 1, 2007, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was born in Newark and had lived in Hillside before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. Prior to retiring 10 years ago, she was a bookkeeper for JayGee Sales, Hillside, for 15 years. Mrs. Goldner was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, in July 2000. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Dorothy Goldner of Cherry Hill; two daughters, Amy Goldner and Wendy Goldner, both of Freehold; a brother and sister-in-law, Irving and Myra Singer of Trabuco, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Brianna Yvellez. Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Rosemarie Mathilda Serafin Terhune

Mrs. Terhune, 56, of Manalapan, died Sept. 1, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Known as “Rosey” to her close friends, she was born in Passaic and was a lifelong resident of Manalapan. She attended Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools and graduated from Freehold High School, Freehold Borough, in 1968. She was a bus driver for the Freehold Regional High School District for 25 years. Mrs. Terhune was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. She enjoyed gardening and playing with her grandson. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard “Ricky” Serafin, in 1975. Surviving are her husband of 34 years, William Terhune; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Steve LaRoza of Bethlehem, Pa.; her mother, Mathilda Serafin of Manalapan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Johanna LaChapelle of West Linn, Ore., Karen and Chris Acostar of Huntington, Md., and Mary and Paul Robb of Oakhurst; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Leslie Serafin of Manalapan; a sister-in-law and her husband, Florence and James Mount of East Brunswick; a brother-in-law and his wife, Michael and Amy Terhune of Tampa, Fla.; a grandson, Nicholas LaRoza; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Esther K. Dice

Mrs. Dice, 83, of Freehold, died Sept. 3, 2007, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born in Baltimore, she had lived there and in Farmingdale before moving to Freehold three years ago. Mrs. Dice was a coil winder for Frequency Engineering, Farmingdale. She was a member of the Farmingdale First Aid Auxiliary and was also a den mother. She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Garrett. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, “Buzzy” and Carol Ann Dice of Farmingdale; two daughters and a sonin law, Mary L. and Raymond Layton of Howell, and Patricia Ann Jenkins of Maryland; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Ceil Blumberg of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, with the Rev. Harvey Kelley officiating. Interment was private. Joanne M. Fischer

Mrs. Fischer, 62, of Manchester, formerly of Manalapan, died Sept. 4, 2007, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was a graduate of Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison and the Berkeley School of Business. Upon graduation, she worked as an executive secretary for the vice president of John Robert Powers cosmetics company. After raising her children, she was a business manager for Dr. Kenneth Ordene in Freehold for 18 years. Mrs. Fischer retired as a result of her illness. She loved cooking, gardening, camping and sewing. She was predeceased by a daughter, Stacie, as well as her parents, Frances and Joseph Payack. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Peter Fischer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Kristine Fischer of Howell, and Eric and Katy Fischer of Jackson; a brother and sister in-law, Joseph and Paige Payack of Newbury Park, Calif.; two granddaughters, Brynlee and Delaney Fischer of Howell, and a grandson, Cameron Fischer of Jackson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. M. Patricia Tinsley

Mrs. Tinsley, 95, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 5, 2007, at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township. She was born in Philadelphia and had resided in Cranbury before moving to Freehold Township 16 years ago. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Tinsley worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in Princeton. She was predeceased by her husband, Selden L. Tinsley, in 1987. Surviving are a stepson and his wife, Richard Lee Tinsley and Ngoc Loan of Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Thomas M. Cornish of Lancaster, Pa., and Terence N. Cornish of Cherry Hill. Funeral services were private, with Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements. Theodore “Ted” A. Bongartz

Mr. Bongartz, 50, of Howell, died Sept. 9, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he had lived in Long Island City, N.Y., before moving to Howell in 1993. He was a salesman for Haddon House Food Products Inc., Medford, for 18 years, covering the Manhattan, N.Y., territory. Mr. Bongartz was a parishioner of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Howell. Mr. Bongartz was predeceased by his mother, Anne Mullen Bongartz; his mother-in-law, Josephine Liccione; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Kantor. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Cecilia Bongartz; two sons, Dylan and Dane Bongartz, both at home; his father, Theodore Bongartz of Yonkers; three sisters, Tina Rabin of White Plains, N.Y., Barbara Kuthe of Yonkers and Anita Bellucco of Bethel, Conn.; a brother-inlaw, Frank Liccione of Manhattan; and many nieces and nephews.
