It saddens me to drive around Marlboro these days and see so many “Land for Sale” signs. Those properties should read “Preserved for Open Space.” I am shocked that this administration, both the Mayor and the Township Council, can look residents in the eye. They all platformed for open space yet virtually none has been purchased under this mayor.
Just within a 1-mile radius of Conover Road and Route 79 there are hundreds of acres for sale. Why isn’t the township buying any?
They have millions of dollars in the open space account as well as hundreds of millions of dollars available to them in state and county money. The state will match dollar for dollar money that the township uses for open space.
Marlboro did buy a parcel of land, a 4-acre parcel that was in no danger of overdevelopment, not a very good purchase as far as I am concerned.
When are the powers that be going to wake up and realize we do not want to live in Staten Island, so why is Staten Island development coming here? The council should be asking the mayor at every meeting when he is going to start purchasing land for open space. I am thinking of selling my property and moving to New York, at least the taxes would be less.
