SJV’s Gooch signs with Georgian Court to play soccer, basketball

St. John Vianney’s Katherine Gooch has signed her National Letter of Intent to play soccer for Georgian Court University.

Gooch, who lives in Marlboro, starred in soccer and basketball at SJV. She led the soccer team to a 16-4-1 mark in the fall and an appearance in the Non-Public Schools A state final for the second time in her career. She was the captain of the basketball team that won the Non-Public A state title and advanced to the Tournament of Champions final. The Lancers were 24-6 on the hardwood.

GCU’s new women’s soccer head coach James Moore said the early signing was a boost for the program.

“We’re very happy to have Katherine join our program,” he said. “Receiving an NLI this early into your appointment is extremely encouraging to the GCU women’s soccer program.

Gooch pointed out that her desire to continue her athletic career in both soccer and basketball in college is what attracted her to the university located in Lakewood.

“I am excited and honored to join the Georgian Court family,” she said. “I am looking forward to a successful future both academically and athletically at GCU.”
