MANALAPAN — Investigators in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to review documents related to the construction of the Manalapan Chase development that they took from the township construction office late last year.
The development off Craig Road was constructed by Calton Homes.
The investigation was prompted by residents’ complaints over several years about defects in the construction of their homes.
Monmouth County Prosecutor John Kaye provided an update on the situation to the News Transcript.
"In late December I received a phone call from an attorney that represents a Texas corporation which bought out a stock purchase of Calton Homes," Kaye said. "They have certain agreements with them concerning liability and other things."
Kaye said the successor has accepted the task of making repairs on the homes that are alleged to be defective. The prosecutor said repairs were in progress even before investigators from his office started the investigation.
"They have a significant amount of documentation as well as an employer-employee relationship with a lot of the people who have worked for Calton, and would have information," said Kaye.
The prosecutor said investigators are continuing to review documents associated with the construction and inspection of homes in Manalapan Chase.
"We’re hoping to find a short cut way of going through it, although I don’t think there is. We’re working on it," he said.
