Rutgers University junior Val Majewski earned New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Player of the Week honors for the week that ended April 28. The Freehold Township High School graduate batted .438 (7-16) in four games, scoring seven times and knocking in nine runs. He was 3-5 for two RBIs in a 16-9 win over Iona, New Rochelle, N.Y. He was 3-4 with four RBIs in a 21-2 win over Pace University, New York. He had a bases-loaded triple for three RBIs in that game. In a 6-2, 7-2 doubleheader sweep of West Virginia, he had two RBIs including a two-RBI double in the nightcap.
The twinbill win over West Virginia put Rutgers in first place in the Big East with a 13-7 record. The Knights are 26-16 for the season and went 4-0 during Majewski’s big week.
For the season, the left-handed batter is hitting .331 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs. He is second on the club in RBIs and home runs, and leads the team four triples. He has nine doubles and has scored 31 runs.
Manalapan High School cheerleaders Ashley Solek and Ali Minerva will be attending Towson University, Towson, Md., where they will be members of the cheerleading team. They were picked to join the squad after going through a tryout. Solek is the captain on the 2001-02 Brave cheerleading team.
The Marlboro/Colts Neck PeeWees ice hockey team, the Horses, won the PeeWees league championship at Wall Sports Arena. During the regular season, the Horses went 7-3-1. In the playoffs, Marlboro/Colts Neck defeated Wall 7-2 in the semifinals and then beat Jackson/Howell, 4-1, in the championship final.
The members of the Marlboro/Colts Neck PeeWees ice hockey team are Todd Cohen, Adam Faiella, Dominick Fiore, Tommy Giannone, Scott Kanofsky, Jordan Klovsky, Michael Lobianco, Jordan Namer, Bobby Piscitelli, Max Rubenstein, Ian Torgovnik, Mike Tataro, Kevin Tormey and Matty Weinberg. The team is coached by Steve Klovsky and Jay Kanofsky.

The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in Somerville will be inducting four new members on May 26 at the Somerville Elks Club, Bridgewater. The event precedes the 59th Annual Tour of Somerville on May 27, the nation’s oldest, continuously operating bicycle race.
The inductees of 2002 include Mildred Kugler, Harry "Skip" Cutting, Rebecca Twigg and the late Arthur Greenberg.
Kugler, born in Somerville, raced from the late 1930s into the early ’50s. She was a national champion and set national speed records for bicycle racing in five different distance categories.
Cutting’s career as a racer and coach spanned 40 years. He was a member of the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympic teams and a bronze medalist in the Pan-American Games. He was both a track and road racer and notched 297 top-three international placings during his career.
Twigg, a six-time world champion track cyclist, won Olympic silver in 1984 in road racing at the Los Angeles games, and four years later won the bronze at the 1992 games in Barcelona, Spain. Twigg, who still competes, has been equally successful as a track, time trials and long-stage racer.
Greenberg was the youngest international cycling official in the world at the time of his death in 1981 at the age of 30. He devoted his career to upgrading the level of officiating in the United States and internationally.

GoodSports, Aberdeen, is holding registrations for its summer roller hockey camps. The camp dates are: July 22-26, U8; July 29-Aug. 2, U10; and Aug. 5-9, U12.
