The GFWC Molly Pitcher Woman’s Club of Freehold Township celebrated its 40th birthday on March 20 at the Old Country Buffet, Freehold Township.

The club joined the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs in March 1967. It chose the name of Molly Pitcher to honor the American Revolutionary heroine who displayed patriotism, cour-age and dedication.

Invited guests included Mary Pat Marcello, NJSFWC president; Joyce A. Andaloro, district vice president; Dorothy H. Avallone, mayor of Freehold Town-ship; and Gary Gellman, photographic artist of Gellman Images.

According to a press release, the GFWC Molly Pitcher Woman’s Club of Freehold Township has served the community through thousands of volunteer hours. The club extends a helping hand to those in need and has helped with the restoration at historic sites.

More than $10,000 was donated to CentraState Medical Center in educational equipment and furnishings. A scholarship is presented to a graduating high school senior each year. Members continue to support the food pantry, Ronald McDonald House, women’s shelters and other areas of community involvement.
