Two charged
in burglaries
FREEHOLD — Two borough residents have been charged in connection with burglaries that occurred in April.
Police arrested Troy Ritchie, 34, of Vought Avenue, on April 30, and charged him with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property in connection with four burglaries that occurred last month, according to Freehold Borough Police Capt. Michael DiAiso.
According to DiAiso, the Intertuft Carpet and Design Co., Bannard Street, was burglarized on April 2. DiAiso said Ritchie is accused of entering the business through a rear window and stealing a vacuum cleaner, a radio and a small television set. Police said he was also found to be in possession of a custom designed carpet worth approximately $1,500.
DiAiso said Ritchie is also accused of breaking through the front window of Free Bridge Leather, Bannard Street, sometime between 10 a.m. April 18 and 6:40 a.m. April 21. DiAiso said the suspect in this burglary entered the building through a rear window and took a computer.
The Sunrise Health Product Distribu-tion, Bannard Street, was entered and several electronic items were taken on April 22 at 4 a.m. The captain said Ritchie is accused of entering the building by pushing a fan out of a rear window. The owners of the company reported a $2,000 computer missing.
Ritchie was also charged with committing two burglaries at Paul-Mark Printing, Stokes Street, on April 26 and April 27. DiAiso said that as employees came to work on the morning of April 26, a suspect fled from the building through a front window that had been broken. Police said a suspect entered the business again on April 27 and attempted to remove a computer but again fled from the scene.
He was placed in the Monmouth County jail in default of $20,000 bail.
The Center Deli, South Street, was burglarized on April 19, according to DiAiso. Charged with burglary and theft is Dwayne McKnight, 38, of Henry Street.
Police said a cement block was thrown through the door of the deli, startling the owner of the business who was in the back room cooking. DiAiso said that when the owner heard the noise he looked out of the room and saw a man holding the cash register as he attempted to flee. The man dropped the cash register and fled from the building. McKnight is being held in the county jail in default of $25,000 bail.
