WEST LONG BRANCH — A new science course will be introduced at Shore Regional High School in the fall.

The Shore Regional High School Board of Education, at its Jan. 22 meeting, approved the addition of "Geophysical Systems" for the 2004-05 year.

Board member Ted Szczurek, who chairs the committee overseeing curriculum, explained that the course was created because of a change in curriculum due to the imposition of state standards.

He said it was extremely necessary for students in the non-advanced science track, which is most students.

Superintendent/Principal Leonard G. Schnappauf announced there will be a meeting Feb. 11 on curriculum between Shore Regional school officials and officials of the Monmouth Beach, Oceanport and West Long Branch K-8 school districts, which feed students into Shore Regional High School.

Sea Bright sends its children to the Oceanport schools on a tuition basis.

Schnappauf said the principals and vice principals of the schools have been asked to attend. He said school board members also are invited to attend.

Schnappauf said the session will be held at the Monmouth Beach School and will be led by Tracy Hanrahan, Shore Regional’s curriculum director.

Efforts at curriculum coordination between the sending districts and Shore Regional High School have been sporadic over the years.
