In February, “Brookdale Creates” will be on view Feb. 3-27 — showcasing faculty work: learning assistants, adjunct professors, and full-time faculty members of the art, English, library and Psychology Departments.
Salon des Refuses
Running concurrently with the first two shows (Jan. 21- March 1) will be a digital loop of entries to the Monmouth County Arts Council exhibition – entries that were not accepted into the show on view at The Monmouth Museum.
The title of this show, “Salon des Refuses,” is taken from the 19th century series of exhibitions launched by Napoleon III, which gave radical artists their first official showcase in defiance of the annual Salon Juries of The Louvre, Paris.
The accepted works of the annual MCAC Juried Show will be on view at The Monmouth Museum. The two collections (accepted/ rejected) will be on view simultaneously in galleries that are right next door to each other.
In addition to the continuous loop of art images that will be shown in the CVA Gallery, printed material – biographies and artists’ statements will be available for interested people to review. There will be an open book for comments available at the CVA Gallery.
Monmouth County Arts Council Connection
From March 5- 27 the CVA Gallery will be turned over to projects that originate with the Monmouth County Arts Council: a live sculpture project called “Puzzle,” orchestrated by conceptual artist/sculptor Tim Kelly that will result in a sculpture created using over 350 hand-cut 18-inch square puzzle pieces, hand-decorated by high school art students from throughout the county.
The Teen Arts Festival will take place at Brookdale while the college students are on spring break, March 19 and 20. Over a dozen area high schools will be delivering the best artwork by their outstanding students to hang in the CVA. For more information about Teen Arts events taking place in the CVA Gallery, go online to www.monmoutharts.org, or contact the MCAC Community Arts Director Sandy Taylor at 732-212-1890.
