MARLBORO — Circus aficionados and fans of amusement park rides should enjoy Marlboro Day, scheduled to take place on Sept. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. at the municipal complex on Wyncrest Road.

The celebration will feature a circus, including a show by trained dogs, a magic show, clowns and a stilt walker, said Susan Levine, director of public information. Rides, a rock climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course, a trackless train and a Ferris wheel will also be available to entertain Marlboro Day participants

More than 100 vendors will be selling their wares at the event, which will also include food and live music. Artisans will be displaying their hand-made crafts, and Marlboro police, fire and first aid emergency services personnel will be on hand to demonstrate equipment and share safety tips with the public.

Depending on the weather, between 8,000 and 10,000 people are expected to attend Marlboro Day, Mayor Matthew Scannapieco said. Marlboro Day is a very significant occasion for the town, he added.

"It’s one of the highlights of the year…
and Marlboro Day is a special day with a special meaning for me. It’s a day of enjoyment and games when people come together," the mayor said.

He said he’s hoping for good weather that will allow many people to come out and enjoy the festivities.

This will be Scannapieco’s last Marlboro Day as mayor.

He will complete his third four-year term as mayor in December and is not seeking re-election.

He said his favorite aspect of Marlboro Day has been seeing people take part in the festivities as a community.

"I like walking around and seeing kids enjoying children’s attractions and people playing games or taking part in another form of entertainment.

The township comes together on Marlboro Day," the mayor said.

Although Scannapieco did not initiate Marlboro Day, he said he has worked with the recreation department over the years to put the event together.

The mayor said he is looking forward to taking part in future Marlboro Day celebrations as a citizen and former mayor.

Free shuttle buses will be available during Marlboro Day to bring people to the municipal complex.

The buses will leave from the Marlboro Library, corner of Wyncrest Road and Route 520; the Marlboro Middle School, Route 520; and the Marlboro Elementary School, School Road West near Wyncrest Road, Levine said.

The rain date for Marlboro Day is Sept. 21.
