FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — An accident in the intersection of Pond and East Freehold roads sent two people to the hospital, one with minor injuries and another with possible internal injuries.

The collision happened Thursday at about 4 p.m.

Manalapan resident Ashley Esposito, 18, was traveling east from Route 9 on East Freehold Road.

Her 2000 Kia Sportage collided in the intersection with a 2000 Chrysler minivan driven by Ajinder Kaur, 37, of Marlboro, according to police.

Kaur was traveling south on Pond Road and crossing East Freehold Road. Esposito’s vehicle hit Kaur’s van on the passenger side, causing the van to flip over and strike a car which was stopped at the stop sign on Pond Road north, according to police.

That third vehicle was being driven by Marc Ciangiulla, 46, of Manalapan. He was not injured.

Kaur had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad.

She was treated for lacerations and possible internal injuries. Police said she was issued a summons for failure to stop and yield.

Freehold Township police Lt. Robert Brightman explained that after stopping at a stop sign, a driver must also yield to oncoming traffic which has the right of way.

Esposito was transported by the first aid squad to CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, for treatment of injuries police described as minor.
