volunteers for service
Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts bestowed honors upon local volunteers during an Adult Recognition Awards Ceremony April 30.
During the ceremony, which was held at Freehold Gardens, Freehold Township, Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts thanked a core group of dedicated volunteers — those that truly comprise the backbone of the organization, according to a press release.
Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts also recognized members of the community that supported local Girl Scouts throughout the past year.
The most significant honor of the evening, the Thanks II Badge, was earned by Pat Rise of Holmdel. Rise has been a steadfast contributor to Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts for many years, in numerous capacities. In addition, 13 local women were honored by Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts for reaching significant milestones in their years of service to Girl Scouting.
Sheila Weisfeld of Holmdel has been an adult Girl Scout volunteer for 35 years and a Girl Scout for 45 years. As such, during the Adult Recognition Awards Ceremony, she received her Years of Service Pin as well as her 45-Year Girl Scout Pin.
In addition, those who have been active Girl Scouts for decades include: Joyce D‚Accardi, Marlboro, Elaine DiTaranto, Brick and Dolores Dzubaty, Howell (25-Year Girl Scout Pin); Dee Gale, Brick, Deb Kleme, Point Pleasant Beach, Margot Ott, Middletown, Susan Provost, Port Monmouth, Betty Trivisone, Matawan and Peggy Voss, Brick (30-Year Girl Scout Pin); Ruth Aoki, Montclair, (40-Year Girl Scout Pin); Doris Tierney, Eatontown (45-Year Girl Scout Pin) and Jane Frederick, Lincroft (60-Year Girl Scout Pin).

McClure and President Judith Kramer.
The Alumni Club, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary of service to Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts, honored individuals who exhibited outstanding support to the club during the past year.
According to McClure, this year’s honorees represent the best and the brightest of the organization.
"Without our core group of 4,500 adult volunteers," McClure said, "Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts would be unable to serve more than 11,800 girls in our community. And certainly, the volunteers being spotlighted through adult recognition awards have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to helping girls grow strong in Girl Scouting. I’m extremely proud of all our volunteers and thank them for the countless hours of service that they provide to Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts."
According to the press release, Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts also would be unable to flourish in the Monmouth and Ocean counties area without the steadfast support of members of the community.
The organization recognized individuals and companies with the 2003 Community Award. The firms honored include Bruce Bray of Lakewood; custodial staff of the Asher Holmes Elementary School, Marlboro; custodial staff of the Frank J. Dugan Elementary School, Marlboro; custodial staff of the Defino Central School, Marlboro; custodial staff of the Robertsville Elementary School, Marlboro; Stephanie O’Neil of Freehold/Student Health Awareness Center; Sister Cherree Ann Power of Howell; Gladys Slater of Morganville/Morganville Senior Center; Target of Manalapan; and Jeff Wolf of Marlboro/Defino Central School.
