FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — A number of ordinances and resolutions were approved by the Township Committee at its meeting of Nov. 26.

An ordinance that limits the speed on a section of Georgia Road to 35 mph between Elton-Adelphia Road and a bridge just past the entrance to Tigue Park was approved.

In addition, a regional mall zones ordinance that amends the land use ordinance to permit limited development within the regional mall zone (RMZ-1, RMZ-2, RMZ-2A, RMZ-3) along the "ring road" known as Winners Circle for uses that complement and enhance the overall development of the regional mall was approved.

"Horse racetracks, horse race courses, stables and accessory structures and premises wherein pari-mutuel wagering is permitted by the state" was deleted from the section.

Two of the five committee members, Dorothy Avallone and Deputy Mayor David Salkin, were ill and could not attend the meeting. Although most of the ordinances only required three voting members to be present, one needed a forth member (two-thirds of the committee) so Salkin was called and put on speaker phone.

Mayor Eugene Golub, Salkin and committeemen Ray Kershaw and Anthony Ammiano voted to go ahead with a $325,000 bond ordinance for various local purposes consisting of improvements to the sanitary sewage system.

Five ordinances were introduced. The public hearings will be on Dec. 17. One concerns an amendment to the professional offices in residential zones section of the general land use ordinance. It codifies the conditions whereby an existing residential structure can be turned into an office. Another amends the architectural requirements in the section Corporate Multi-Use Development Zone.

The third ordinance limits the use of trucks on Three Brooks Road between 4:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.; the fourth amends the metering and water service charges; and the fifth is a salary ordinance that fixes the salary and compensation of various municipal offices, including police department employees.
