FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — Two people were arrested shortly after midnight Oct. 10 and charged with setting fire to a car in the area of Yorke Drive.
They were charged with arson and attempted arson after it was allegedly discovered that they had attempted to set fire to three or four other cars in the area.
Jeffrey Holden, 22, of Freehold Township, and Jessica Jasper, 19, Manalapan, were arrested at 12:30 a.m.
According to Freehold Township Police Department Lt. Bob Brightman, officers responded to a call of a vehicle fire in the area of 12 Yorke Drive.
Based on the evidence, the crime scene processing and immediate follow-up investigation, the two people were taken into custody a few hours later.
When the officers got to the scene, they discovered a fully engulfed 1995 four-door Oldsmobile, Brightman said.
Volunteers from the Freehold Township Independent Fire Company arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire.
Brightman explained that once the fire was extinguished, officers and detectives started processing the area as a crime scene.
The investigation revealed an attempted arson in the area of 54 Heritage Drive and on three additional vehicles in the surrounding area.
Brightman said the motor vehicles were tampered with to create the fire.
Jasper was released on a summons pending a court date and Holden was taken to the Monmouth County jail, Waterworks Road, with bail set at $7,500.
Investigating officers were James Burdge, Daniel Pasquinucci, Steven D’Antonio and Detective Paul Stevens.
