Three Boy Scouts earn Eagle rank

MARLBORO — This past summer three Scouts from Marlboro Boy Scout Troop 86 earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Nationally, less than 4 percent of all boys who enter scouting earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Brandyn Abrams and Marc Klepner, of Marlboro, and Will Kustka, of Colts Neck, all earned the top rank.

Brandyn Abrams, a Colts Neck High School graduate, planned and supervised the building of picnic tables for the Kateri Environmental Center on the grounds of the Collier Estate, Marlboro. The picnic tables enable school groups and visitors to the Kateri Environmental Center to have a place to eat their lunch.

During his years as a Scout, Brandyn earned 23 merit badges and served as troop librarian and as a troop instructor. He was a member of the YMCA of Western Monmouth County swim team and the Colts Neck High School swim team. Brandyn is currently attending Arizona State University.

Will Kustka, who also graduated from Colts Neck High School, developed a project that benefited his high school. Thirteen Scouts and adult volunteers worked more than 60 hours on implementing Will’s plan and design of a butterfly garden in the front of the high school.

While a Scout, Will earned 23 merit badges and served as troop bugler. He was also a member of the Colts Neck High School concert and marching bands, the jazz ensemble and the pit orchestra. He is currently attending Rowan University, where he is studying chemistry and material science.

Marc Klepner, who is a senior at Marlboro High School, planned and implemented the construction of benches near the volleyball courts at the Marlboro Swim Club on Gordons Corner Road.

As a Scout, Marc served as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and den chief. In 2005 he joined the Monmouth Council Contingent of Scouts at the 2005 National Jamboree.

During the summer of 2006, Marc backpacked more than 80 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and he spent a week in 2007 at Seabase, a high adventure Scout camp in the Florida Keys.

Marc’s older brother, Stephen Klepner, is also an Eagle Scout, and his younger brother, Andrew Klepner, is a member of Marlboro Troop 86.
