MARLBORO – Police are using what may prove to be a key piece of evidence in their ongoing investigation of the hit-and-run death of township resident Shaheen Siddique.

Siddique was struck and killed on the night of Dec. 3 as she walked along Route 520 near Hamilton Avenue.

The passenger-side mirror from what police believe may be a 1993 to 1997 black Toyota Corolla was found at the scene of the accident.

Police said the car that was involved in the accident may have damage to its passenger side front fender and passenger-side door in addition to a missing passenger-side mirror.

Marlboro police Sgt. Joseph Lenge said Siddique, 53, a mother of two children, was walking east on the south side of Route 520 when she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop and fled the scene. The accident occurred between 8:30-9:18 p.m.

A passing motorist found Siddique on the side of the road.

Lenge said Siddique had been walking east from the intersection of Route 9 and Route 520. Hamilton Avenue is about a halfmile east of Route 9.

Marlboro police are asking anyone who may have information about this accident to call the police tip line at 1-888-563-1010 or Sgt. Joseph Lenge at (732) 536-0304. All information provided to police will remain confidential.

At the Township Council meeting on Dec. 6, council President Jeff Cantor asked for moment of silence in memory of Siddique.
