SPOTSWOOD – Children’s activities, health screenings and food vendors will be part of the borough’s seventh annual National Night Out Against Crime on Aug 4.
The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the municipal complex at 77 Summerhill Road.
Sponsored by the Spotswood Police Department, the event is focused on strengthening the relationship between the community and law enforcement, according to Detective Scott Hoover.
Activities for children including inflatable slides will be part of the event.
Free health screenings will be provided by staff of the St. Peters Hospital.
National Night Out is an event created by the National Association of Town Watch, according to the website, to “promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”
The event has been held annually since its creation in 1984. According to the website, 16,124 communities have taken part in the event, which is traditionally held on the second Tuesday in August.
In the event of rain, activities will be held inside Spotswood High School, 105 Summerhill Road.
