– Scouts to conduct Surprise Auction

Boy Scout Troop No. 36 will hold its Family Surprise Auction June 6 at Old Bridge Knights of Columbus Hall, 61 Pine St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Proceeds will be used to purchase new tents and camping equipment for the Scouts.

The auction will feature gifts and prizes estimated at more than $5,000. All bids will start at one coupon. Hot dogs with chips, nachos with cheese and other food items will be offered for purchase. Children are welcome to attend.

Tickets are available in advance. Admission is $10 and includes a paddle and 50 coupons. Additional coupons will be offered at a cost of $5 per book of 25, $10 for three books of 25.

– Seniors schedule meeting and picnic

The Our Lady of Victories (OLV) Senior Group will host its next gathering 1 p.m. June 12 in the church’s Monsignor Dalton Hall, Main Street, Sayreville.

After a short business meeting, members will be treated to a barbecue picnic. Entertainment will be provided.

Members are asked to bring a nonperishable food donation for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank. Payment will be collected for the group’s upcoming trips to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, Hampton; the Dutch Apple Theater, Lancaster, Pa.; and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

– Musical ‘Millie’ coming to stage

The Villagers Theatre, 475 Demott Lane, Somerset section of Franklin, will present the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, June 5-21.

 – Registration open for Benefit Car Show

RJC Charities Inc., Parlin section of Sayreville, will host its fifth annual Benefit Car Show 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 7 at Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS), 820 Washington Road, Parlin.

Proceeds from the event will go to support Jaclyn Squillace Olsen, a 26-year-old area resident who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer when she was five months pregnant with newborn son Nicholas, and to the Monmouth Titans, a basketball team for special-needs individuals ages 17 and above.

Antique, custom, race, muscle and restored cars, street rods, motorcycles and other vehicles are welcome at the show. Registration is $5 in advance, $15 on the day of the show. Spectators will be admitted free of charge.

The event will feature food, music, a tricky tray, 50/50 drawings and a raffle to win four New York Mets tickets (package includes batting practice on the field) and four tickets to a Brooklyn Cyclones game.

– Workshop to focus on raising chickens

The Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will hold the workshop, “Raising Chickens in Your Backyard,” 6-9 p.m. June 10 at the EARTH Center in Davidsons Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.

The free workshop will be hosted by Dr. Joseph Heckman, who has been raising chickens on a pasture since 2005. He will discuss baby chicks, coops, feeder systems, sourcing feed, protection from predators, and the collection and care of eggs. On display will be a small flock of chickens in a movable coop.

Preregistration is required in advance by calling 732-398-5262 by June 5. Not all municipalities allow chicken rearing on residential lots. Residents should check with their municipality before attending the workshop.

– Registration ongoing for St. Thomas pre-K

St. Thomas the Apostle School, 333 Route 18, Old Bridge, is holding open enrollment for its upcoming prekindergarten programs.

The program for 3-year-olds will be held 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m. two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Three-day sessions for 4-year-olds will take place 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; a five-day program will be offered 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. – Arts festival to host show, sale, market

The township of East Brunswick and the Fine Arts Festival Committee will sponsor the 13th annual Fine Arts Festival, an outdoor juried show and sale of fine arts and handmade crafts, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 6 around the pond at the East Brunswick municipal complex, Jean Walling Civic Center, Ryders Lane. Rain date is June 7.

The daylong family event will provide artists with a venue to exhibit their work, demonstrate their talents and offer original art and craft items for sale. This year’s show will feature approximately 70 artists. Glassblowing, stained-glass and bobbin-lace demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day.

There will be a display of artwork by students from Hammarskjold Middle School, East Brunswick. The Community Art Project, organized by Scott Friedman, freelance photographer and social worker, also will be on-site. Musical entertainment will be provided by guitarist/vocalist Tommy Aboussleman of East Brunswick. Food will be available.

Past shows have attracted more than 400 artists from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Original work has been represented in all media including oil/acrylic; watercolor; photography; sculpture; graphics/drawings/pastels; mixed media; and fine handcrafts including pottery, jewelry, accessories, clothing, weaving, mosaics, ceramics, turned-wood sculpture, woodcrafts and florals. Professional judges will award cash prizes and ribbons. The event is sponsored by the township of East Brunswick Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services, the Fine Arts Festival Committee and the East Brunswick Arts Commission. – Campers should register by June 16

Middlesex County boys and girls who have completed grades three through six are invited to take part in Middlesex County 4-H’s Explorations Week (E-Week) day camp program.

The program aims to encourage creativity, promote self-confidence, and help campers make new friends and achieve a sense of accomplishment.

Attendees will participate in a variety of daily activities, such as rocketry, theater, archery, scrapbooking, dance, cheerleading, wilderness survival and biking. Friday night includes an optional sleepover with campfire and dinner.

The E-Week program, hosted by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Youth Development program, will run July 20-24, with sessions lasting 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the 4-H Youth Center, 645 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

The cost is $160 for 4-H members and $170 for nonmembers, and includes program materials, daily lunch, a T-shirt and field trip. For a one-time service fee of $25 per child, arrangements can be made for early or late arrivals.

– Open-bounce event to support mission trip

The Jumping Jungle, 10 Alvin Court, Suite 100, East Brunswick, will host an open-bounce fundraiser 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 12.

Proceeds will benefit Danielle Hauer, a Jumping Jungle employee who has been chosen as a Presbyterian Mission Agency YAV (Young Adult Volunteer) and will be leaving for Little Rock, Ark., in August for a yearlong mission trip to help with the ecosystem and/or disaster relief.

Cost for children ages 2-18 is $10 for two hours of bouncing or $13 for one hour, 15 minutes, of bouncing and two slices of pizza. Cost for adults is $5 for up to four slices of pizza. All pizza options will come with unlimited beverages. Individuals under age 2 and above age 18 will bounce for free. Socks must be worn.

St. Stan’s Carnival 2015 will take place 6-10 p.m. June 24 and 25 and 5-11 p.m. June 26 and 27 on the St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish grounds, MacArthur Avenue and Main Street, Sayreville.

Discounted ride tickets and super 50/50 raffle tickets may be purchased in advance at several locations according to the following schedule:

• prior to Thursday-Night Bingo at St. Stan’s auditorium, 6-7:30 p.m. June 4, 11 and 18;

• prior to Sunday-Afternoon Bingo at St. Stan’s auditorium, noon-1:30 p.m. June 7, 14 and 21;
