The following is a list of candidates who have filed for election to local Boards of Education. The election is April 20, and voters also will have the opportunity then to pass on the budget of their local school board.
The hour that the polls open varies from school district to school district, but they all close at 9 p.m.
Eatontown
In Eatontown, three candidates are running unopposed for three, three-year terms on the Board of Education and one person is running unopposed for a one-year unexpired term.
The three candidates running for the three-year seats, all of whom currently sit on the board, are Joseph Gaetano, of 72 South St.; Mark Van Wagner, of 341 Grant Ave.; and Kevin Gonzalez, of 4 Surrey Lane. Gaetano and Van Wagner are completing three-year terms and seeking re-election. Gonzalez is completing the first year of a two-year unexpired term and is running for a three-year seat being vacated by board member Sandra Staba.
Gonzalez had been a board member in the past but was defeated for re-election last year by two votes. When a seat on the board opened up soon after the election, when Michael McDonnell moved out of town, Gonzalez was appointed to serve out the remainder of McDonnell’s three-year term.
Running unopposed for the one-year term remaining from McDonnell’s tenure, which Gonzalez is leaving, is Mark Kramer, of 406 Grant Ave.
