– Blues band to perform at Aug. 31 Elks picnic
The East Brunswick Elks will hold a Labor Day picnic 1:30-6 p.m. Aug. 31, rain or shine, at the lodge, 21 Oakmont Ave., East Brunswick.
The menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, corn on the cob, salads, desserts, tap beer, wine and soda.
Live entertainment will be provided by the South Mountain Blues Band.
The cost is $15 for Elks members; $20 for guests; $7 for children ages 11 to 18; free for children age 10 and under.

– Former special agent to discuss immigration
Guest speaker Michael Cutler will discuss “Immigration and Its Effect on National Security” at the next meeting of the Middlesex County Republicans 7-9 p.m. Sept. 2 at the East Brunswick Library, 2 Civic Center Drive, East Brunswick.
Cutler is a former senior special agent of the Immigration and Naturalization Service who spent 26 years rotating through all of the squads within the Investigations Branch.

– Seniors offer trip to Mount Haven Resort
The Sayreville Seniors Thursday Club will sponsor a Sept. 24 excursion to Mount Haven Resort, Milford, Pa.
The trip will include an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet upon arrival at 10:30 a.m.; choice of bingo, a movie or cards; a four-hour open bar; dancing; a one-man show featuring singer, musician and comedian Joey Vincent; and an all-you-can eat dinner buffet. Departure from the resort will be at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from the Mickey Sedlak Recreation Center parking lot, Dolan Street, Sayreville. Return will be at approximately 7:30 p.m.

– Church thrift store sets End-of-Summer Sale
The ShareGood Thrift Shoppe, an initiative of Sayreville United Methodist Church, in partnership with Simpson United Methodist Church, Old Bridge, will continue its End-of-Summer Sale Aug. 28 at the shop, Sayreville United Methodist Church, 406 Main St. Entrance is on Ida Street, off Pulaski Avenue. The store is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Shoppers will have an opportunity to spend $3 and fill a grocery bag with as many tops and bottoms as they can. All games and toys will be sold at half price. Fall jackets are offered at 50 percent off; all glassware, 20 percent off.

To kick off the fall season and to herald the upcoming East Brunswick Day set for noon-6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Community Arts Center, the recreation department will hold a Family-Night-Out Pool Party beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Crystal Springs Family Aquatic Center, 380 Dunhams Corner Road.
Children in kindergarten-fifth grade may bring their families to the event, which will feature swimming, music, singing and dancing. The pools and slides will be open. Pizza and water will be provided by the rec department.

– Table tennis program to resume in Monroe
Senior Table Tennis will restart 9:30 a.m.-noon Sept. 2 and continue Mondays- Fridays during the school year at the Monroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road.

The Color Run will debut its Kaleidoscope Tour “Happiest 5K on the Planet” Aug. 30 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. for individual runners and teams.
